I don't normally like private number plates but today I saw one on an Aston Martin V8 Vantage that made me chuckle it read; V8 0 BOY

Totally illegal spacing and would instantly fail an MOT but the best plate I've seen for a long time.

Someone I used to work with, named Chris H..., had the chance to buy a Mini with the registration CHR15H. This was in the late '70s or early '80s, and was for sale for £250 (car and registration together), but his wife wouldn't let him buy it. :(
To think what that would be worth today ! (There must be a footballer or so-called celebrity with a matching name).

S1NGH sold for a ridiculous amount a couple of years ago.

Most 'private' plates these days look stupid. People buy plates that mean nothing to the rest of the world but the owners are convinced it spells their name if you squint from 100 meters away or something equally daft. Occasionally one does actually look good but it's not the norm.

If you're gonna get a private plate it should be very, very distinctive or very old i.e. no prefix/ suffix.

Cool plates:

A1 - sold for a silly amount of money.

MAG 1C - Paul Daniels' plate.

B100 PER - just funny!

etc.

Oh, and PEN 15 does not exist. That one's become something of an urban myth...
