On sunday evening i was driving down a road near kingston in surrey and a policeman with a policewoman passenger in an brand new BMW 5 series came up behind me. As i have only been driving for 2 months was a wee bit nervous. He kept tailgating me and made it look like he was looking to overtake, i was going a steady 30mph (in a 30 zone) with other traffic infront of me. this was also confirmed by one of those signs which tells you your speed.
The road then ended and joined a section of the A3 which is a road i regularly drive down and has very narrow lanes in parts. This section of the A3 is a 40mph zone and he sped off at about 60+ mph. I was outraged by this driving from a supposedly trained and respectable person.:mad:
And no he did not have a siren or lights on, im annoyed because i failed to get his number which i feel i should have done and complained :bang:.
*rant over*

that is bad, its obviously traffic and they should be the best drivers in the country mind you if your doing exactly 30 in a 30 you are more likely to get pulled over. no one drives that speed, he was probably just annoyed at the slowness if you had been doing 35 you might have been alright

About the 30 in a 30 all the traffic infront was doing 30mph and i didnt want to hit them! Also forgot to say when on the A3 he was going right up behind people and forcing them to pull over to let him past. Much like you see white van drivers or posh idiots in porsches.

maybe they were on a high speed pursuit training activity??
theres a road near us, often has police testing there cars under normal conditions. ie, roads which are in use

i remember my brother telling me he did this but i dont know if it was with lights/sirens or not.

i remember him saying it was training for overtaking and merging back in when needed in small spaces

Then again those who break the law infront of a traffic car and actually know its there are not exactly bright...Although 35 on a speedo is probably a max 30-32 mph

new drivers seem to be obsessed with what they see in their rear view mirror.

it really doesnt mater how close the car behind is, the closer the better really. if they hit you its free money time.

best thing to do is only use your mirrors when you need to, then you can ignore that BMW sitting on your bumper.

eventually you'll get used to seeing a bmw badge very close behind you, its all part of driving. a bigger concern should be the rover/honda in front, that old man could slam his brakes on at any moment for no apparent reason. if you're too busy looking at the bmw behind you then you'll slam into him and your insurance will be paying out.

after you've had a few close calls you'll learn to watch what is in front of you, not behind.

one day you may graduate to your own bmw, and then you can make new drivers feel nervous and bully pensioners out of the way.
