Re: What tool kit should I get?!
as a fitter, i use my tools every day. i have tried some of their stuff and i just dont like it. For example their ratchets. Add to that i know a few others in the 'shop have tried it and broken it, and not went back again.
Now i know they have improved a lot, but still...
Draper expert - dont like. Their ratchet/open-ended combi spanners are lovely to use, but break too easily. The standard Draper allen keys are bombproof though - imo its not worth spending money on anything fancier, becuase these can take long lasting abuse (apart from the ball end)
Clarke pro - nice tackle, but too expensive for what you get, which isnt the best quality.
Teng tools - very nice stuff, but will not last forever.
Britool - this is what i use mostly (work pays for it all) and its very nice stuff indeed.
Snap-on - too expensive, but the only stuff ive ever seen that was broken/worn out is 30+ years old equipment, it will last forever with light use.
kennedy - for the love of pete dont ever get any of their stuff, this is the other brand of equipment we are cursed with at work.
these are my (probably biased) opinions on some of the stuff i have used.
For a home toolkit most well known brands will do the trick nicely. Most ring/open/combi spanners and sockets from most brands do the job well and will last a lifetime, its just when you get into ratchet mechanisms, screwdrivers; stuff that can and will wear quickly, that you will break/wear out cheap tools quickly.
