Just got my last pay cheque thing from my employment agency. I took a day off that week for results and they asked us to leave one day 1.5 hours early another day so I knew my hours would be low.

However, I thought I would add up what I did and it was .25 hours out. I then remembered that during the week they ran out of work so told us all to go on a 15 minute break, so we did, they deducted our pay for it! How unbelivable is that? We still had to remain on-site etc. and think it's really unfair. I understand why they don't pay us if they ask us to leave early but this is different.

I also don't know how to claim my 1.5 days holiday pay, any ideas from anybody who has worked for an agency before?

Paul

No me, i'll be the "shafter" as it were ;) hopefully (not in any way other than ripping off employees)

OK, it may only be £1.25 but that's so much to me right now! It's more the principal though....

lol Stu, I agree, the cost of the phone call to complain would take away most of the amount lol - I am just annoyed about it!

I am more bothered about getting the holiday pay....

Your holiday pay should have come through on the pay-packet!

Speak to the agency, did you get a P45 as well, or maybe it will come through in another pay-packet?

Did you sign a P46[student] to tell them NOT to deduct any tax?

I thought it was a P36? ANyway, no, I was on the emergency tax and only had NI deducted - no tax....(code 747 or something?) No one explained to me about the P46 until I looked on the web although if they didn't take it from my pay, do I need to worry about it? I will have to take my steel toe caps to the agency anyway so will ask about holiday pay then, I was expecting them to send me the P45 last week and assumed it might come then when I had finished working for them? Remember I am really new to this work lark ;)

James, isn't it 4.5k or there abouts?

Emergency code would have been 474LW1 - note this give £4745 which is your annual allowance.

If you did pay tax, you will have to claim this back from the revenue! Which is what the whole idea of the P46 is for :), so no tax deducted at source.

Paul,

Do you not have to work one month to earn 1.5 days holiday so dependant on your length of service this could be not much.

As for the shafting, don't expect it to be the last and they will be lots more to come after leaving the security of University.

Im not positive but i think agencies pay your holiday in as part of your hourly rate. I could be wrong although when i did agency work thats how they did it.
