Fire At the Disco

Fire At the Disco

something exciting finally happens in me home town and i sleep through it:(

for some reason i was thinking insurance job, though i doubt it. i know a lot of people who work there, some not just part time too.

it has recently been taken over by new owners who have added new rides and a bar and some lights from blackpool or something. wish i'd gone on it yesterday now though, but it was a bit too busy for my liking, but looks like i'll never go on the go-karts now.

going to miss the shooting game on it though.

I hear it was a "seaside bomber"

rumour has it Dom Joly started it. he recently gave weston a poor (but pretty funny and accurate) review. http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/columnists/dom-joly/dom-joly-tears-before-bedtime-in-westonnotsosupermare-to-shoot-a-golf-dvd-856479.html

i'll have to go for a gander tonight. i'll take my camera with me.

the worst thing is that with the pier gone there's now nothing left. the tropicana closed several years ago and the council can't decide on who's money is best. the old birnbeck pier is on the verge of falling into the sea and been out of use for at least 20 years apart from by the lifeboats. yet again it's mainly down to the council.

hopefully this will give them a wake up call that weston has sod all and it needs more to support its population of over 60,000. as well as to draw in more people. doubt it though the council have always been useless.

I bet it wasn't an insurance job, although this was my first thought.

Reason I say this is because, the owner of the peir is also the owner of Regency (the insurance company) and is insured with himself lol.

I reckon electrical fault as it was said to have started in the oldest part of the tower.

From the looks of it it (the pier) has just had some renovation work.... What beats me after spending thousands or hundreds of thousands on fancy bits why the hell didn't they spend a few grand more and fit a fire suppression system (sprinklers) as part of the refit especially as most of the structure is wood.. just imagine what the result could have been if it was packed with members of the public......

If it started in some deep fat frier's as one source suggests where was the fire lining above and around the frier's? and again a automatic CO2 or wet chemical deluge system would quickly knock out any fire local to the frier's you can even get them for the home...

but knowing most commercial building owners they seem to pay lip service to fire safety and put the absolute legal minimum fire safety devices in (usually one extinguisher in a 30 meter radius)

I remember going to this place when i was little, used to go to that part of the beach alot when we had a lot of family up that way.

When it closed down, it was a bit of a bummer as there wasn't a lot to do there.

Is there still an aquarium there ?

i would put an audible alarm on that as well bet its a pain to clean up afterwards the powder

not powder daz its a wet chemical which is a shed load easyer to clean up than Powder which your right it makes one hell of a mess. it isn't the most effective on oil fires anyhow due to the fire been able to re-ignite due to latent heat had to put out a pitch kettle at work powder had a quick knock down but it kept relighting, Foam on the other hand was a tw@t to use but once i had applied a skin by dropping the foam (by aiming over the fire and letting it drop) it put it out good and proper...

i dropped a 1kg Powder extinguisher a couple of years ago and sheared the valve it flew around the garage like a rocked
