I know there are some royal mail employees on here so i thought id ask

recently, i noticed a fair few scratches on my drivers rear quarter and wheel arch lip and were a bit baffled where they came from as there was no metalwork damage. Steadily they have been geting worse, and the other day when i was looking at them a neighbour commented they had seen the postmans bag hitting it on more than one occasion when hes walking past it down my drive.

Great stuff.

So before i go to the hassle of setting up a camera to catch him at it for myself, is there anyway if proven the royal mail cover this sort of damage?

If the postman is causing the damage then you can hold Royal Mail responsible for his / her actions.

Good idea to set up the camera! Especially as you can see when the blighters actually deliver your post!

If it is the posties bag then firstly contact RM with your issue, see if they are willing to investigate. If they are happy to then sort out the damage to your car then thats all good.

If however they dont, mention that you will contact your insurer...if that doesnt help, contact the police and mention that you have video imagery of the situation it may force their hands somewhat.

I dont think there are any criminal offences here, if its an accident that is, if its someone you know that holds a grudge it might be a bit different and there is motive involved and then the police can get their hands dirty.

i dont think its malicious- just laziness

but the damage has been getting worse, about 75% will t-cut out, but the rest is showing white undercoat which looks great on a black car :(

See what turns up when the camcorder is working and then see what RM will do. Can you not move the car anywhere where it cant be damaged further?

i have the same problem i just park further away as complaining seems to get me nowhere with royal mail.

before they have rung the doorbell and my mum got up and by the time she got to the door the postman was starting his van again and had left the parcel on the doorstep.

she said what stops someone from nicking that and he said "i dont know if people are awake or not so i just leave things"

what a cock.

right, postie just been and i watched him, he walks into my property down the drivers side, with has bag next to the car, and then leaves up the passanger side with the bag scraping the fence. just checked the rear quarter/wing and some more dirt is rubbed off. what a cock, why move you bag to one side for going past the car when leaving? its obvious its the postie now

polite word with him? making sure you point out the damage

that would be where i would start.

just ask him/her to be a bit more careful as you have noticed some scratches on the car. Im sure they will take it in.

i used to be a paperboy and got asked similiar things such as please leave you bike at the end of the drive so you dont scratch things and leave the paper on the doorstep.

I didnt mind these things but i suppose it depends on the person.

good luck(y)

Get your camera out and take pictures of the damage, do it everyday for a while so you can document the damage thats being done.

If RM wont pay for the damage you can take them to the small claims court (claims under £5000) and hopefully get a judgement against them. Doesn't cost a lot and it will make them take you seriously.

The important thing is to document your claim and get the proof of who is doing it.
