Just got this through on email:

Security warning: update your account at eBay!

Dear eBay User,According to the User Agreement (section 42.1), we can send you this mail.

We inform you that your account at eBay could be suspended if you do not participate to this verification. We have dealt with many fraud cases lately, and our company has started a study regarding this problem. In this study the we have reached the conclusion that most of the cases were possible because of the poor email security.

Our further activities depend on this (the fraud prevention) we have decided to test the security of our clients mail service.
Hoping you understand that we are doing this for your own safety and because we want to offer secure services, we suggest you to access the following link to test your mail .

This problem is regarding every eBay member.

If you fail to take this test in the following 72 hours, your account at our site will be erased.

Please login to your account at this link:

This is a spoof, one giveaway point being the 72 hour deadline! I clicked on the link just to see what information they were trying to wean out of me, but eBay toolbar cut in, and gave the spoof warning, from which I could then report it.

I had a similar one recently, whereby eBay wanted an updated credit card details. Again, looked at the form, and they wanted a PIN number - hmmm, too obvious, so again reported.

Just a warning to you all.

I actually reported it twice - once from the Home Machine using eBay toolbar with 'Account Guard', and then from work by forwarding the email to [email protected]

They got back quite quick; be interesting to see if there is a follow up - if you look at the eBay homepage, click on Help, they have a whole set of guidelines about what to watch out for.

The eBay toolbar is also worth getting, especially if you tend to have a lot of items in your watchlist.

I also recieved a very similar email this morning, suspected it was a spoof, just in the process of reporting it to ebay

i get these spooof emails or variations about once a fortnight. I always believed it was common sence that it was a scam and so I always reply to them and enterr my username and password (well a made up one anyway!!) saying Nice Try or F*** O**.

Then my next door neighbour got it when i was chatting to him only and I was laughing about it, presumed he new it was a prank and I told him to fill it out with username 'Nice' and password 'Try'. He put his reall username and password in and all hell happened. Haha. Fortunately no money got taken but he had to close his hotmail, ebay and credit card accounts down!
