In a moment of inspired madness, I decided to rip all the panels off my computer and respray the nasty beige box the same dark metallic grey colour as my wheels :D

So until the bloody paint dries and I can re-fit the panels, this is what I'm stuck working with:

Stylish or wot? [xx(]
It's all in the details. Like the case fan hanging in front of the CPU by a piece of old wire tied to the power supply, or the two wires (circled) that I have to touch together to switch the bugger on. And as an added bonus, the neons are enough to light my room at night! :p

it's to do with error checking TC, I think I am right in saying most normal MBs just use non-ECC, the memory ISN'T cross-compatible I believe.

twincamms, ECC stands for Error Checking Correction. I think every 3rd clock cylce it checks the memory for basic errors in whats stored in it. Its slower than non-ecc and does not overclock as well, but is useful in systems were it really really matters that the system is 100% stable (ie servers!)

On topic, i sprayed my pc case many moons ago -

My wreck of a computer now has a shiny metallic grey/black case! :D
The beast is now complete! Well, the sprayjob's a bit shabby, and there's a crack in the acrylic side panel :( but at least it's no longer beige!
Pics are a bit crap as my digital camera refuses to focus properly when the flash is turned off.

TC, I'm afraid it's "all mouth and no trousers"! It was the b***ocks when I built it over 2 years ago, but a bit outdated now! Still runs Vice City and UT2003 nicely tho ;)

Spec:
AMD Athlon XP2000+ overclocked to 1.75GHz
512mb SDRAM
40Gb Exelstor HDD
128mb GeForce4 MX440 graphics
16x DVD-ROM
8x NEC DVD+/- R/RW
Q-tec 400W dual-fan PSU (modded with green LEDs)
Some cheapo nasty case that I've fitted with front and side windows, 5 LED case fans, cheapo ebuyer fan controller, four blue-n-red neons, and a respray in Rover Charcoal Metallic (i.e. leftover paint from doing my wheels).

Nice choice of DVD/RW there Jonny, shame about the spec changing isn't it, ever tried pricing those parts these days and comparing it?

And your parents tell you cars are a waste of money!

ECC is basically for use with servers and workstations, and as mentioned it's for Error Correction.

I wouldn't say it was slower, it all depends, but basically it's usually quite a bit more expensive and most PCs just have Non-ECC.

Smart looking PC btw, I prefer to keep my case on mine, covers up how much of a damn mess it is in there ;)
