Those of you who don't have children, do you think you would find yourself 'giving in' to a 1 year old that wanted say, crisps or a lollypop.

Would you give them this sort of junk at that age?

Sweets no, but certain crisps yes - they are remarkably useful things Im told.

I dont have kids but I do know at one year old a baby wouldnt know how to eat a lollypop and would probably choke on it, it wouldnt have anywhere near enough teeth to eat crisps and how will you know exactly what it wants?.......it cant talk FGS.

I hope you are not considering a career in childcare :D

I know i'm a parent, but just had to point out that kids do have teeth by the age of one and there are 'baby' crisps that you can get that are more healthy, which are like wotsits/skips that can be sucked more than chewed

such as these ...

crisps

Wouldnt give a lollipop due to choking hazard, but i'm sure there are some parents that would and do!

Also, some children are able to speak by the time they are one and CAN tell you what they want even if not able to properly speak!

i wouldnt know what would be good or bad for a 1 year-old :D

one thing im certain on though: if/when i have my own children, they gonna feel discipline... im sick of badly behaved children/teenagers/(even)grown-ups.

Something we are going to have to differ on. My missus is a Pediatric nurse and she tells me she has never seen a 1 year old with enough teeth to manage a packet of Walkers without razoring his/her gums, nor has she seen a 1 year old who can lucidly say "I will have a packet of Prawn cocktail please"......... and I have never seen a packet of crisps like those in the link down in my local......but in fairness the question is very ambiguous and very much open to interpretation.

What I can't get my head around is how parents can give very young children **** like this to eat at the most essential time of their development.

No wonder children suffer from things like ADHD and there are so many behavioural problems etc.

Things I notice, the way some of them act is almost devil like (due to their parents not being tough enough to say no. Getting them hooked on junk food etc, doing them damage so early on is just something I'd never be able to forgive myself for.

Now I'm not a parent myself, so I don't know how hard looking after children could be, but I do understand the principles and have seen what happens when you mess up the foundations for children as they physically grow up.

Just saddens and angers me when I see this:(

I'm not suprised by anything anymore.

Saw these 2 kids nearly get ran over trying to cross a road. One was about 5, the other perhaps 3? No parents in sight. No doubt they'd be the first people in the no-win-no-fee solicitors office the next day if their kids had been ran over.

I agree...but I would also like to know exactly what goes into 'good healthy' food these days, fruit(pesticides anyone),cheese, milk etc certainly dont taste the way it used too.

The best start any parent (well mother!) can give their child is natural milk.

Think there is a lot more to behavioural problems in kids than what they eat. I know my son can drink coca cola, eat biscuits and not become hyperactive. Then again he can have not eat anything and turn into a little devil sometimes. I personally think childrens behaviour is much more to do with the attitude of the parents. If they gave a damn perhsps the kids would turn out better.

We just didn't have this kinda junk food in the house when growing up so it was never an opportunity to give in too! If i have children there wont be junk food in the house as there certainly isnt any in my house now.

back in the late 50s and early 60s we still ate "proper food" that was homecooked and made from fresh natural ingredients. kids had animal fat smeared on bread as a snack.

in the late 60s we had the start of the modern age of processed foods, standard white loafs, sugar coated cereals, that kind of thing. there were loads of flavourings and colours and preservatives that were new to the market and used in almost everything, especially children's foods. many of these chemicals have since been withdrawn because they are harmful.

kids of the 50s and 60s managed just fine. most of them are still alive and well today.

compared to the days when we ate good old fashioned food, a modern day packet of crisps is a healthy choice.

I reckon 99% of parents say that...but it never lasts. Imagine kids paying in the strret eating crisps & one of them eating a cheesestring:(. Another reason it wont last is sweets keep kids quiet & lastly sweets are nice:)

p.s. imagine getting a bowl of fruit at xmas insteard of a selection box:eek:

i feed my sis kids whatever they want, i can hand them back after a few hours and i be the cool uncle ;)

there mother is the evil one
