late this afternoon on a12 i see 4 police cars 2 in both lanes in front of this black van and 2 in both lanes behind in, the van also had blue lights on but i couldnt see no other markings, it looked like a dodge van with a box back, but went past very fast.

what was they doing then?

i have seen this on the M62 near pontefract/M1 leeds junction- about 5 cop cars and a big black van with flashing lights on it, no police markings but could go like the clappers and looked armoured- and was in the fast lane constantly.

i thought it was a gold run or high value cash transfer

It wasn't a prison van because they're all white, nor was it bomb disposal as they're also white. Do you know if the escorting cars were from the Met? If so, I think I can remember them using some black 6-7 tonne box vans, (years ago) but apart from ones used to carry terrorist suspects they usually use Group 4 or other private security firms which are also white. It's possible they still have the odd black one lying around. Alternatively they do have to practice various escort drills and using a black truck would avoid any embarassing mistakes.

Good point, the Bank of England used to use dark blue trucks for large scale cash deliveries. Usually 16 tonners.
