[Rant]

i have done the British Heart Foundation Hearts First Bike Ride - White Peak Challenge event for several years and raised money where i could,,,

However this year I think the BHF is taking the P155 over this

"Please note; we ask you to raise a minimum of £70 sponsorship for this event"

http://www.bhf.org.uk/get_involved/take_part_in_our_events/event_display.aspx?e=3051

they as a charity should be grateful in my eyes to what ever money they raise I cant see them event costing them much as the marshals are the local Cadette force, and the ladies at the drink stops do it on a voluntarily basis to support the BHF its only 29 miles...

the amount of riders that take part is staggering in my eyes and i cant see their problem as you can see jon is rider 685...

Oh and a Hello to Simon,(front) Jon (left) and Roy (right)Whos picture they have decided to use to front their advert for the ride

( jon feels the same about the £70 as me BTW)

it just annoys me when you do something to seemingly help a charity they always want more £70 is a lot of money in my eyes when you factor in the cost of travel to the event and the entry fee

In my tight fisted set in my Yorkshire man ways im for the Charity starts at home way of life, But i dont mind doing a bit but with a small family and mates at work know i ride for fun i can't raise £70 its not like it's the London Matathon

(No im not looking for Donations i'd rather go out and spend the £70 on petrol and go do some proper mountain biking.)

[end rant]

probably to cover ever rising public liability insurance costs.
be not worth then holding the event if cost to run it are more than money raised

cant see that dave IIRC you sign a waiver when you sign up and the entire route is on legal rights of way and you are informed that its not a race (as your are on the public highway)

British cycling do very competitive cycle insurance for events

I will be doing the Great Selby 45 mile charity ride in May where the entry fee is £3ish so go figure

but some one who is walking along and gets run over by a bike hasn't signed a waiver and in todays world would sue the charity holding the event for any damages

An organised event such as this will need by law a minimum of £5m public liabilty insurance. If you were to injure a member of the public or damage property while taking part in the event the organisers would be held responsible.
