ok so someone i work with hhas dinged a car wile parking at work it's a buisy garage with limited space and he was doing nothing stupid or iresponsible at the time

but the service manager has handed the responsibility to sort this mess out to the guy who did it

now this is on works property in work time

the guy that owns the vehicle got a quote for damage of 800 quid and even he don't wana put the damagey in this situation but that was from a body sop renound for overpricing

at the most it would come to 200 quid

now the guy with the car obviously wants it fixing one way or another but understands the stupidity of the hole situation

the guy who did it is not allowed to sort it in work time and is trying to get the work done at a good friends body shop

but that good friend has had his apprentice bust his leg so is very busy and in no position to help

so any opinions on what's right and wrong in what's going on here

surely someone has to realise it's a busy garage this sort of thing happens quite often and no one should be to blame aslong as nothing stupid happened which it most certainly didn't

Yes it happens. I had my car in my dealer 7 days ago and got not one but two dings . Not only that the incompetent tit said he didn't have time to strip my gearbox before warranty runs out :bang:. I was too angry about the gearbox to notice the dings :(

The ding should be repaired by the company and if necessary a claim made on the companies third party liability insurance which they need to have by law.

Edit: Tell him DO NOT PAY, I know this may compromise his job but if they sack him on those grounds he can go to town on them for 'unfair' dismissal.

also if they dont want to claim on insurance most garages have a budget for accidents like this.......we are all human & these things happen.

end of the day he didn't mean to damage the car & the company are quite happy to take the £50-60 he earns them every hour:mad:

o there's no doubt about the insurance at the company but for obvious reasons they don't want to make any sort of claim on it

as for your gearbox if the fault is reported before the waranty runs out and you can prove that i would contact the manufacturer i take it that is fiat in this case and stake your claim with them they it's not up to the garage to decide weather the claim is valid or not it's a set time from purchase and no one can go back on that i would expect the garage is just being lazy and don't want to have anything to do with a claim they don't think will go through so easy
