Cops here can now fine you for swearing. Far out it's ridiculous, I mean I'd understand if the swearing were directed at them or whatnot but it covers pretty much all swearing. I really wouldn't have that much of a problem with it if it weren't going to be teenagers copping the heaviest handed fines.

And people wonder why teenagers hate cops.

same here,"public order offence"

Your walking down the street with your younger sister/brother/child/other, and a group of youths are swearing on the other side...would you be happy with that?

Anyway, my grump.

They've had to cancel the next two intakes of Regs into the Police, could be a while longer before they start recruiting again :(

No, I do understand some applications of the law but truth is that cops around here literally like to pick on teenagers and it won't matter what the context of the swearing is.

If its in a public place, then I don't see a problem with it.

See that's the thing. People here already resent the amount of control the government exerts over them in public and soon they're going to run out of revenue raising schemes and start having to monitor us in our homes. It's ridiculous that they would make something that is such an acceptable part of our culture a fine-able offence in the name of what? Protecting the innocence of five 12 year olds who might hear you?

And while I realise that 'free speech' doesn't cover vulgarities, it is quite absurd that police can now weigh in on our private conversations with fines for bad language. A swear jar might be a cute idea in an office or at home but I certainly don't think it's even in the slightest bit amusing in a public place.

They are acquaintances not friends ;)

Too much to do in work, came home at 7pm - tried to dial in but there's not enough bandwidth on our LAN to do what I need to do and maintain a remote connection
