SuperMarket Own Brand Drink

asda's own bog roll is great, but the smart price stuff is useless. i think in cases like that they use the smart price stuff to make their own brand seem better. you cant have good without something bad to compare too.

Anyone else drink it?

i know asdas vodka is alright, but my mate has started drinking asdas smart price lager (3%)

i thought it would be awful but it actually wasnt that bad, 88p for 4 cans and £2.70 for 12!

which is a lot cheaper than carling, fosters etc. only loosing 1%.

anyone lol?

Did you know the SmartPrice lager is made by Carlsberg?

We use the SmartPrice cola at work to get the stains off the floor! Works really well :p

you find most of the budget brands are actually made by premium brands, same with most things, even tyres and watches. the big players position themselves in every market sector. even fiat do it using their alfa and lancia and commercial brands.

so how comes that a john smiths is FAR superior to a can of tesco's own lager?
thats just one crap example, too.

superior in what way exactly?

if it is only a perceived superiority then you are a victim of branding.
if you only think it tastes better then you prefer the taste of it, but that doesnt make it superior.

by the way, i'm not a drinker but even i know john smiths is a bitter so how can you compare it to a larger?

oh, ok, on your reasoning, they are two different drinks, so im gonna shut up now

still doesnt affect the fact that the very cheapest drink that you buy, is a disgrace to the very name of it.

oh- more input- i remember last year, my dad put some value coke in a Coke bottle, to se if i could tell the difference, hoping to catch me completely unawares. one mouthful: "WTF? has someone watered this down or summat?"

Do what i do when hosting a party

Answer your door drinking can of your favourite lager, Ask if they fancy one

When they say yes, serve them a own brand one in a pint glass (y)

saves a lot of money

Especially if they bring some beers to drink too, as you just drink the ones they brought round :yum:
