Hooorrayyyy!!

I'm on holiday for a fortnight as of tonight, and just wondered wether you lot prefered holidays abroad or in england.

I'm going to Weymouth with my touring caravan and wont be back until the 16th July, only cost £300 for 4 of us.

What are your opinions? Abroad or England

I guess it depends.
I love travelling abroad to satisfy my sense of adventure and to appreciate other cultures etc, but then for just totally chilling out, in my humble opinion, a narrowboat holiday in the UK is hard to beat.

Definately abroad for me! And without the adventure. 2 weeks relaxing in the sun all day with a beer at one side, cigs at the other, trance music playing, pool at your feet, perving at the ladies behind your dark glasses, lol [8D]

Home or abroad, not bothered, but can't cope with long haul flying:( Tenerife was far enough.[xx(]

Am going to Scotland in September. Last year went to Spain in the Tipo. Madrid ring road very scary[:0]. Even drove into Benidorm for the day[V]

So either.

I prefer holidaying in the UK - it means I don't have to practice my languages and cultural knowledge for a start (IMO anyone who goes to a country where a different language is spoken without attempting to learn a few words of it and about the culture is being narrow minded and pig-ignorant). There is also a lot of it to see, again many people who go abroad have never explored their own country and what it has to offer which is disappointing.

However, I have explored the UK from top to bottom so next years trip will be to either Ireland (where they usefully speak english) or Austria/ Bavaria although the thought of the local patois' and customs will not doubt be beyond me so it will be something of an experience!

Lol to some of the above. Spain is more or less English now anyways. Does that mean you should also learn Urdu if you are to visit Bradford? lol

(all in good taste and no offence meant)

I just think it's respectful to learn a bit about the country you're going to visit since you are going to be a guest of the people there. After all we as a nation expect people visiting the UK to be able to speak English and get a bit annoyed when they don't (as in your example of parts of UK cities becoming Asian ghettos, which is wrong IMO). It's also helpful if you get lost and can't find the airport/ bank/ hotel/ whatever ;).

I do agree though that English is becoming the international language and that you're likely to find someone who speaks it and even more likely to find someone who wants to practice it on you! That's why I try not to use it at all (although the experience of dreaming in franglais and german-english (dunno if that has a name!) was a weird one......)

I have to say i'm totally with you on this one Helz. Paris has got to be my favourite places on ther planet. The city is beautiful, the people are wonderful and the food and drink are fantastic.

i love going abroad....where ever i go i tryand learn a bit of thier language, i am crap but i think in general its respectful to try, even if its just please and thank you, i hinks in general brits are lazy and expect everyone to speak english and are distgusted at those who cant... when i went to spain i could say a few words but is was cool when we got lost and i asked some germans for directions and i could speak german quite well.
i am going to take night classes in speaking spanish in sept...

er soz if this has gone a bit off topic, i love goig abraod but i think more people should travel the uk, eg i went to scotland last time i went i was eight, so ddnt remember much but when james took me in april it was an amazing place and we loved every minute of it.

I once saw a Aston Martin Vantage towing a caravan in Auto express about 4 years a go when I used to read it! Not sure why...just funny.

Talking about big boxes, i saw my first ever H2 Hummer thing 2 days ago!

Went to Paris in 1990, the summer of Bomballurina[V] & The Soup Dragons[8D]. Haven't been back as I hated it, cos it was dirty and the people were unfriendly. But even the French hate Parisiens[:0]

As for Pandas towing caravans, I saw an Italian Panda in Devon in about the same year, towing a caravan.

It was a bloody small caravan though.:D
