Today I finally completed the collection of new suspension components!...so 4 shock absorbers, New bushes all round, Two radius arms, and two track rod ends!....in the course of the last 12 months chasing rattles, vibrations and knocks tbf I suppose I havent had springs or wishbones yet but they aren't exactly consumables...otherwise its entirely new under there! And where has it got me? well all the rattles and bangs have gone, but it still vibrates through the steering at motorway speeds:bang: (and yes the wheels have been balanced) But on the upside it no longer sounds like several large bits of metal in loose formation on a rough road and hopefully *touch wood* The mot should be a piece of p***:slayer:

If you want to get real techy there is perhaps static and dynamic balances coming into play, sadly I forget the whole concept of it but it's to do with what Munkul is talking about.

try some known good wheels to rule it out.

Trackings been done 4 times...when the track rods were done, (on seperate occasions) and when the shocks were done, and then when it started randomnly screeching its tyres at low speeds round rounderbouts. i was counting components....(y) I am suspecting the rather battered O.E. alloys like but I haven't got any spares lying around so not sure where I could loan a known good set? Hoping it will F**k off when i get the front tires changed in a few K

You'd think like! It's a whole hill better than it used to be...TBF in the time i've owned the car i've lost count of the times the wheels have been balanced its only really been right once, and it was for a while but wheels seem to go out of balance easily, then an old lady forced me off the road on a country road and while I ate ditch at 40, not properly like i put two wheels into it to avoid the old bag who was driving down the centreline and a shock absorber went bang. Since then I've been chasing it and still not found it, hoping possibly the impact in the ditch may have deformed the tire slightly and the new boots on the front will cure it. Although surely it would be possibly to balance that out

actually, my mk1 had/has that problem, the steering wheel vibrates really badly at 80mph....
but its not like its all the time, maybe one week its awful, next week its fine

Yeah tho i'm still reasonably chuffed because prior to it going in today rather than just wheel vibration, I had a very ominous sounding noise at the front which has cleared off so small victories...although dread to think how much i've spent doing it!

The way I was taught was that you only put 100g of weights on a rim, if the machine says more the rim is not in a serviceable condition and should be changed.
