Reading a story in the local rag today, I'm amazed at the idiocy of the police and their attitude that lower speed limits are the answer to everything.

The story, in a nutshell, is that this month on one particular road (Leger Way, near the racecourse for those who know the area) in Doncaster, there have been 2 crashes in which 2 young people have been killed. The road is a long, gently-curving single carriageway with a 50mph limit.

The second of the crashes involved my friend's two sisters who were in a Corsa driven by one of their boyfriends. They crashed into another car which the s**t-for-brains loser in the driving seat was racing at high speed and one of my friend's sisters (only 17 years old) was in a coma for a few days but sadly died. The other girl is awaiting surgery on her back but is otherwise OK.

Now, a local police inspector from wants to reduce the limit from 50mph to 40. Which is utterly bloody pointless. The crash was caused by the idiot driving the Corsa (who unfortunately escaped alive but has been arrested & is currently on bail. The f***er's either going down or getting a severe battering) racing another s**thead in a Saxo at well over 100mph.

If the crash was caused by two morons racing at over twice the road's speed limit, what exactly is the point in reducing the limit from 50 to 40? 50mph is a perfectly safe speed for the road in question; do these stupid coppers really believe that, had the limit been 10mph less, this accident wouldn't have happened?

The fact is that, if the police had actually made any effort to stop this type of genuinely DANGEROUS driving, my friend's sister would still be alive. Anyone who thinks that racing at over 100mph on a single-carriageway at night in a hatchback is a good iea should not be allowed behind the wheel. But that's too much like hard work for the pigs, they'd much rather spend their time zapping people doing a few mph over the limit.

I sincerely hope that the c**t who was driving gets convicted of death by dangerous driving, and goes down for a long, long time. If he somehow gets off, there's a large mob of us who intend to make his life a living hell, as he has done to the family and friends of the young girl he killed.

If he didn't mind doing 100 in a 50 zone, he wouldn't mind doing 100 in a 40 zone, a lower speed limit would have zero affect on such an accident.

the only way too discourage people from from racing is have more cops out on force and have more severe penalties.

i had a similer experience.

2 cars racing and the road goes from 2 lanes into 1, but one was still over my side when i had swerve out the way to miss him, he also swerved lost control and rolled down an embankment, me an my mates was one off the first at the scene and was horrified when we noticed that he also took out a motorbike that was waiting at a junction to pull out.

the rider was badly injured but his passenger was even worse she had the full wieght of a 4x4 on her back/shoulder. It was one off the most horrific scences that i have seen to date and what made it even worse was the fact that me an my mates was one off the first on the scene, so had to deal with this carnage. The closet thing i ever came to first aid was watching casualty

I had to go to court to give evidence and even had some off the blame put onto me but this was thrown out cause they had no case against me.

And what the local police have done now is put big 30mph signs leading onto the road and a speed camera at the other end so races still do happen once they have passed the speed camera. Both off the racers involved got banned for 2 years, i do not know what ever happened to the rider an his passenger.

so unless people are educated at an early age or the consequences are more severe then nothing will change.

(for anyone that knows wrexham its the road outside the football ground)

I live in Doncaster and know the road you mean. 50mph is safe for that road I'd say because there's a grass plain area on one side and there's the race course on the other. So basically there aren't going to be any children that coming running from between parked cars etc.

So I agree what you're saying. They could put a 5mph speed limit up, as long as there are nutters that go racing at 100mph it's pointless.

I agree with your above points that there are some dumb idiots who will risk their and others lives for their kicks. OK we might all race someone off the lights but when it comes to driving dangerously for the conditions that is crossing that line and putting lives in danger. This is where traffic officers and Specs cameras over distances come into usefulness.

Jonny I am sorry to hear of your friends and I hope the second girl is OK. I hope the courts mete out justice but as we read every day in the papers it often doesn't happen and these girls need someone like you to fight for justice for them in any way you can :(

i know the road and i think i read something about it. Cant quite remember. The concept of reducing speed limits on that road is madness. That only means chainging one number on a little sign. Like thats gonna stop Corsa/Saxo/Nova (generalisation, sorry) driving nobs racing each other!

I agree entriely with the need for more traffic cops. They are more effective against bad drivin cos they dont just concentrate on speed. A car could drive past a speed camera at 20 but still be weaving all over the road and hit a car in the ther direction.. If that camera was a copper, they would be pulled over and arrested.

i was in my uno at the time, i was accused off leaving the scene off an accident, i parked where i stopped up the kerb against a bus stop, work that one out, lol

they also said that i was over there side off the road, but the cctv that was close by confirmed that i wasnt.

i was also told by the 4x4 driver that if i hadnt moved out the way that none off this would off happened, i would just be dead and all my passengers seriously injured[:(!]

people try and get out off anything.

back to the topic, police need to be out on the streets looking for prats like this
