My computer is running very slow it has lots of pop ups telling me something about spyware WHATS THAT?. As you can tell I dont know much about computers is it easy to repair or is it a shop fixing job.

you need to download spybot and adaware both free, and pop up stopper,you can download them from www.cybertechhelp.com or www.download.com someone said if you download google tool bar it has a pop up stopper with it,

Yes, get Google toolbar without fail - that way you can stop annoying ads on this site [aw, only kidding].

I run Ad-aware and Spywareblaster at home - even now, with a full Norton subscription for firewall/virus purposes, every time I run Ad-aware [and I do a deep scan as well], there are always new tracking cookies on my machine. Scary.

Norton renewal ain't that bad, is it? I use the full family edition, and renewal not due until next year anyway. I originally got it OEM when I built this machine.

I update all my software on a daily basis, or at least check. I can't believe some people I know use the net without even a basic free firewall - madness.

I know, I just wish i could pay it quarterly or something. I also once signed up for some wicked webhosting at only £3 a month, yet when I got to the payment side of it, they wanted £36 for the year, it just worked out at £3 a month, for people like me, I can only afford long term payments lol.

We've got Norton Anti Virus at work and I'm not happy with it, regularly finds 4 spyware or adware threats and can only delete two, AVG managed to sort it out though. Problem is if you want to eleiminate the risk then disconnect your modem cos anything the antivirus boys come up with the hackers work around it.

Thought Kapersky was the best but I'm using AVG cos it's free.

De-fragging you hard disk may also help generally as would deleting any unecessary things from your hard disk.

Norton may have trouble deleting it sometimes, but it does give you the full file path. I find it is then easy to delete from that, rescan, and then problem solved.

Ad-aware is sometimes better for deleting these file types.

Stu, a lot of spyware like this can use up 99% of your bandwitch and hence slow down your modem/BB connection and also your PC with so many processes going on.

Panda gal, if you can't download it for whatever reason, ask a friend to get the programs suggested and have them burned to a CD then undo your internet connection before you switch on your computer and install from the CD, run them, delete everything they suggest. Reconnect internet connection, update both pieces of software, re-run them, hopefully it shoudl be better
