What did you want to be when you grew up?

Was there any reason you wanted to do it?

What do you do now?

When I was very young, I wanted to be a fireman, but as I got to about the age of 9, I started to play football. When I was 14, I got a serious injury (not playing football) that put me out for 19 months. Then the dreams of being a professional were shattered when I was dropped from Wigan Athletics books.

I wanted to be a fireman purely because of Fireman Sam.

And I wanted to play football purely because of my love for the game.

I now own a building company, I'm not a tradesman of any sort, but I have a team of tradesmen that I will assign to the relevant jobs.

I wanted to be a pilot for years, but then my A-level options revolved around me being a doctor, and I even went for medical school interviews :spin:

I qualified in 1999 as a Chartered Certified Accountant - work that out :chin:

Bedroom tester for a Sleep easy company
Structural engineer (training for slowly)
Fireman till i realized it was dangerous
Race car tester would love :) shame i would be too slow
Pilot

I grew up with no idea what I wanted to be.

It wasn't until year nine where a career "guesser" computer programme at school suggested Air Traffic Control (army commando was second guess believe it or not :D). It caught my eye and I was very interested (ATC). So I spent the rest of school still not certain, but with that in mind.

So, I happily apply to NATS the day I get my A-level results and wait. And wait. Wait a bit more.

I soon realised things aren't going to fall into place by themselves so I got myself work experience at my sister's workplace. I was asked to come back full time and here I am a year and a bit later researching UK equities. Who would have guessed it, huh. Certainly not me!

Funnily enough, after a year of silence, NATS got back to me saying they were recruiting again. I attended their selection day two weeks ago and subsequently failed to get to stage two. A year has to pass before you can try again. It is a long time, but right now I will say I will try again.

I wanted to be loads loads of different things.

Police officer - Spent too much time watching "The Bill"
Accountant - Don't have a clue why. :chin:
Financal Advisor - Again, don't know why.
Electrician - Because my late grandad was one and he could fix anything. TV's, Fruit machines, VHS Recorders, and all the usual stuff sparky's do. :)
Maths Teacher - Because I enjoy maths, always suprises me what your brain can work out. :chin:
Navy Personell - Becasue I wanted to serve my country. :)

I still want to be a lot of those things, but one thing or another stops me. :(

Me too :D, Could still happen If I could be bothered but then I'd end up like most of the air crew .

Now I fix there computers for them

Well I didn't have the qualifications at the time, so I went away and got them, then decided to do something else :p

I wanted to do what you do aswell chris, I think i'd enjoy it alot more than what I do at the moment! Not to worry, it pays a wage (y)

PM sent from me, an Air Traffic Controller :D and no I didn't always want to be one.......... when I was a kid the first job I can remember wanting was to drive the bin lorry, as it looked so cool as a kid the way they picked up the bins and shake them violently so they disposed of their contents in to the back:confused::confused::confused:

But don't give up many of my fellow colleagues didn't get in first time, and it pays to not give up as shows determination, something they like in ATC.

There were two things I wanted to be as a kid.

1. A rock star playing guitar in a band

and

2. A pilot (stunt bi-plane and/ or commercial jet liner)

I did become a professional musician and spent 5 year touring the UK and Europe playing bass guitar in a band. Didn't earn anything like the money nor get the fame that my idols did though :(

Looked into training as a pilot until I realised that unless you were sponsored it would cost a fortune and due to a hearing impairment I'd probably fail the medical anyway

All these years later I now find myself at University retraining to be a Registered Nurse (Adult). Not quite sure how I ended up deviating so far from my original goals!

I always wanted to do something with my hands that i would enjoy!
Consequently, i grew up to be a right:tosser:
