Fiat Forum Rally 2004

Just rang elephant (my insurer) and they had a few things to say. Apparently, i'm allowed any graphical content on my car, barring numbers (he didn't seem 100% on this, but advised against it).

If its classed as a rally and not a race (i think he thought i was entering something large and professional!) then i am within my criteria as "social, domestic and pleasure". As long as my car isn't breaking the law, or in the case of an accident, its proved i wasn't breaking the law, i would be fully covered.

So to analyse that, i shall be turning up with a few logos, but no numbers. I will drive as i do on a day to day basis, and all is well.

Time is against us here, so before we even have a route, the dates have to be confirmed, so people can arrange to free them up.

If there is a limit to the amount of miles you can do in a day, or amount of hours to drive, then please excuse us Southerners who will have a 3hour journey to the start!

As soon as the date is officially confirmed (as it almost appears to be) then we can sort where we depart, then plan the route from there using mileage and likely distance in a day, to find out where we are going!

Excellent, maybe this sets a precedent for all to phone their insurers just to check they are "ok" with it? Or maybe not?!

Us southerners? Have you any idea how far it is from Carlisle to Northampton? If I go at the speed limit I would be just south of Manchester after three hours (if being in the south you have any idea where that is of course?). Never mind the poor folks in Scottishland.....

Can we please have some suggestions for places and challenges there please.

I have added one of mine up top for an example in Nottingham.

Would also say:

Oxford (beautiful beautiful city!) Challenge would be to get a picture of the entrance to St. Johns college (could ask you to get a picture of where I had my other interview - took me 20 minutes to find!!!! Too mean that one!) And get a leaflet for a bus tour as handed out all over each street for tourists.

Obviously not all are possible due to distance and clusters of places, will be chosen considering this.

Some if not most people far from the start will probably have to take Friday off work, or at least get a half day! Personally, i'd book the Friday off, and get there nice and early, so i can have a break before jumping back in.

On another point, this really has to be a good route. Being stuck on a motorway in rush hour bank holiday weekend traffic is no fun, and it'll play havoc with any kind of schedules set.

On a lighter note, if the weather is nice, you can watch me fly-by Gumball stylee with the roof off

Tent-wise, i have a huge 6 man tent, so i shall be buying a 2-man tent beforehand. The date confirmed...?

Did I forget to mention that I can help organise in the West Midlands and Staffordshire/ Shropshire depending on what's needed. Obviosuly this means I may not be able to join in with the fun of the race

Yeah, didn't think about motoring over the bank holiday but it is the best date still right? If people agree for 2 days, it will be the sat and sun of 28-29th of August I think.

best deal for a cheap small tent i think is teco, £15 for a 3 man (which is right for 2 people, 3 man just means you don't have to cuddle up as much!) not sure of weight but i think that's a wicked price!

Sorry about starting point etc. but i think it has to be around where it is to make it happy for as many people as possible...

are we best off keeping off the motorways as much as possible... i like motorway driving but i think as much country laning as possible.

i think a point shoule be in yorkshire, there are so many nice places to choose from
