Should this be introduced?

I only ever drive with headlights on when its needed, never turn them on during the day unless the weather conditions etc... mean I need them on -_-

I can't believe people are actually voting for daytime running lights.
If you haven't got the sense to switch your lights on in inadequate lighting conditions then you shouldn't have a driving licence, yes there are the odd few that sometimes forget to turn them on but I hardly think it's one of motorings more pressing issues.

Have you ever had to turn onto a dual carrage way (70MPH and thats if they're sticking to the speed limit) from a junction which dosen't have a slip on of off, in thick fog or even just poor conditions in which it seems people 'forget' their lights?

Not very nice or safe. Having DRLs will prevent accidents and help those who seem to forget to put their lights on, or can't judge if theyre needed or not and so decided to leave them off!

Above is a pic of the junction I have to use daily to get to work. I have to drive over the 1st carrageway and turn right. This is a nightmare when its foggy or theres poor visability and people have little or no lights on. Hopefully everyone can now see why I'm making a fuss. I've nearly had people go into the side of me to many times in fog! and at 70MPH its turns out to be deadly combination.

ah, but you live in East Anglia dont you? People there are really only used to tractors!
I can honestly say, hand on heart that in 17 years of driving I have never thought what you are thinking, and the countries Ive driven in that have DRL are a pain as you get dazzled all the time, not just at night.

I can see what your saying about being dazzeled, but DRLs shouldn't dazzel, but I have noticed some of the new top end vehicles like BMW and Audi that are using LED DRLs which don't dazzle and are alot more efficent on fuel and bulb usage like we were discussing last night. Perhaps it shouldn't be law for drivers but regualtion for manufactures selling in the UK to fit these to all vehicles.

Am I the only one thinking the complaint is a bit off target in the respect that if its foggy enough to obscure a car that has no lights on then maybe you should actually be complaining about people doing seventy and above in conditions of visibility where that is dangerous?

I have to wait for my car to warm up before I can put any lights on. It dies otherwise

I would vote no. Auto lights are needed by dumb asses driving out of supermarkets without any lights....like me

puntokris, you are so right... those that vote yes are needing to go to specsavers.
I have an MR2, and it looks stupid with its lights on as do all pop up light cars:)

+1.

If you see the lights before the big steel car then there be something up with your vision.

Hate the Volvo's that drive everywhere with the Lights on. What is the point? Really. When it gets dark I stick my lights on, like I should...

To Prove my point, Drive down a road, and flick between the different lights, except for main beam, and you'll see in the daytime, Lights don't do anything

Ain't got Fogs on the Cinq either so I can't do anything about that

I've just found out a soild fact. Not that we many long roads in the UK, but a car with DRLs can be seen from 5 miles away in prefect conditions compaired to 1/2 mile without DRLs or headlights on.

Also, the human eye naturally picks up light sources. So a car with a light source always on at the front is going to be noticed easier in any condition.

one thing i do find preferable is driving on motorways at night as cars stand out more in your mirrors etc with there lights on (y)

not that i miss cars in the daylight of course, but even when your not looking in your mirror, you can still sense a car is there by some kind of refelection :D
