Should this be introduced?

On motorways/fast roads I put my sidelights on at daytime. Unless it's so bright that you can't even tell their on - but in this country that's rare! I think it's a good idea if it helps people see you.

On the other hand, I frigging hate people who put all manner of lights on when a slight mist descends. Around packed towns/sitting in traffic, all you do is dazzle the poor person behind you.

Recently when it was a bit foggy, one person was driving toward me on a two-way residential street with main beam and fog lights on. I couldn't see a thing. Nothing. Nada. The lights just made everything white for me. :bang:

Off topic rant over :D

But normal Headlights shouldn't dazzle! But I does wind me up, these poeple who always drive with the front fog lamps on! I always flash them!

\/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ And I have bright lights to flash them with! \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/

me too ive taken to driving with dipped headlamps at all times as you say those with some fault which means there front fogs on at all times get the main beam and front fogs from me too

my lights are usually on when i start the car :D

i leave them on most evenings for the follow me home feature :p, and am usually tuning the radio/cd to find a decent song when i start my car :)

your abttery is a bit crap daz if you cant start your car very well

That reminds me i need to buy a load of fuses and bulbs (justinecase)

And i can turn lights on and off whilst im driving.

i keep meaning to ask you guys what your Voltage and such is on your battaries to work out how bad mine is.

I have a voltage reader that goes into the Cigarette lighter, 12 Volts when car sitting and everything off, 10.8 on engine cranking / starting, and 14 when engine running and altonator (can't spell and can't be bother to check it) running. I think most cars are similar, but thats what I get on my 1.1 Auto Panda.

I dont agree with daytime running lights...

First up, it makes motorcyles seem less visible because most ride with lights on.

Also, it puts extra drain on the cars electrical system and can increase fuel consumption by up to 3%.

Your bulbs dont last as long, which is extra expense and a waste of resources making them.

Last, think... if all the cars in the world ran lights all the time, imagine the extra heat generated by them all.

In Austria they have compulsory headlamps all the time and its really annoying... if you cant see a car in daylight without lights then you should either get glasses or the bus:)

Just a few questions and points (my point of view so I'm not saying they're nessecarily correct)

1, how does it make motorbike less visable?

2, In theriory yes it does increase your MPG, but in practicality I don't see much of a difference, not that is noticeable on my MPG chart which is updated everytime I fill up. Results from before I always had my lights on and now are identical!

3, Haven't really got a comment on this as your right.

4, Can't see what you getting at about heat?

5, have you ever had the sun going down and been driving into it? See how much more visable Volvos and cars with they're light on are when you blinded by the sun. This is an example of perfect conditions (if you have the sun behind you), but the possibility of not seeing someone else!

And one point I have is, why have so many countries adopted this as law if it doesn't help? I assume there must be more advantages than just the ones I'm coming up with.

Many of the countries with compulsory headlamp rules have loads of tunnels, so I think that it is a necessity for them...

I always turn my headlights on in poor visibility conditions.

I'm also forever telling other drivers about having brake lights out - It's a pet hate of mine.

Most motorbikes ride with their lights on all the time, it makes them highly visible... if all the cars had their lights on too then youd lose the advantage that gives them. Its been proven that in countries that have the daytime lights that more bikes are being hit but blind drivers.

The heat thing is simple... all cars lighting generates heat, all bulbs do.. this heat is pretty hot too... imagine if every single car had lights on and its obvious how much extra heat would be generated.

As for fuel consumption, it varies from car to car... as I said up to 3% and we are supposed to be saving fuel, and resources for manufacturing.

I and all of my mates just cant see why anyone would need lights in broad daylight... weve talked about this before... no cars lighting is brighter than the sun anyhow:)
