Child car seats

Hi Emm, whereabouts are you? My husband is the manager of our family nursery shop and there's also another bigger shop in Walsall owned by family

I'd imagine it needs to be rear-facing until they are strong enough to hold their head up/heavy enough.

We have a pair of britax seats which would have done from birth to about 3 years but the seat belts in the Tipo 2.0 were not long enough to reach around the seat while rear facing so had to buy another seat from Grico (Italian manafacturer I believe).

Next one we get will probably be Isofix.

we after a forward facing one,
needs to be well padded as she spends alot of time in the car with us,
and also universal fitting (to a point) as we have 4 different types of Fiat's

one shop reccomended this one as its the closest to universal as you can get (so they said) http://www.twoleftfeet.co.uk/acatalog/Maxi_Cosi_Tobi_2007.html
I dont know anyone else with children so dont know if it any good? Its won an award for its design etc

Take yourself the little one (if you can legally) to a few halfords/motorworlds and see how well the seat fits in your car. also how well it fits the little one, Make sure its easy to fit and use..

If your car has a Passenger side air bag you shouldn't fit a child seat in the front unless there is a facility to deactivate the air bag..

some bed time reading for you

ooh that last site is very good(y)

Go to John Lewis and ask them - they actually have staff who know what they are talking about (unlike date I say it, Halfords) - and remember they will price match any shop within a certain radius (not the web)

Its always best to try the car seat in the car first to check it fits safely, but make sure the person fitting the seat is insured to do so

update; thought it may be useful to list the choice i made to anyone doing a future search on the subject.

-after MUCH research (!) went for the Maxi Cosi 'Tobi' model. Reasons were...

-Has won various awards,
-Has better side impact protection
-Handy little gadget that releases the straps upwards when not in use so easier to get child in seat (buckles arnt under child when he/she is placed in)
-Modern design
-Useful trendy accesories available to fit it, playtray, cup holder and summer cooling cover
-And most importantly for us is the most universal seat on the market, so will fit in our various models of Fiat

arrived today and looks amazing...very pleased with it:cool:
happy days:)
