DVLA have been going round clamping untaxed cars locally, got 40 of them apparently. But they've been very very very light.

£80 fine (same as forgetting to sorn it), and no release fee, for 48hrs, then car would get taken to blackburn (like 3hrs away) and have to pay £15 a day, £40 transport fee, then £80 fine, then £160 to get it transported back.

I know one guy in maryport, was having some work done on his drive, so moved his 'collection' of cars onto the layby on the other side of the road (audi S4, vectra sriv6 estate, and some astra) all taken away! this one would have hit pretty hard!

But honestly £80 its a pretty weak fine considering the rest of us have to pay £115 a year at minimum, some of us £300

Good they did it locally and run out of car transporters in under an hour. they came back having rented a large empty industrial unit and used it as a staging area to off load cars then shift them at a later date rather than running them directly back to the compound...

£80 is not weak considering the untaxed vehicle will still need tax so it may mean £290 for one years tax instead of just £210

Having a release fee may just encourage people to remove the clamp themselves. I would.

i disagree.you get what, a £60 fine for not feeding your meter 50p when parking.
tax evasion should carry a heavier penaly.perhaps it should be £80 for 2 weeks out of days and then a sliding scale for elapsed time

here in edinburgh its about £120 or so when your car gets lifted + parking ticket + storage fee's

*goes out and checks tax on the cars outside*

for some stupid reason, my parents have forgotten for 3 YEARS IN A ROW to tax at least one of our cars - ususally it would be running about for a fortnight with no tax, once even out of MOT :bang::bang::bang:
its not as if they are retarded or anything, they just have a mental block against car ownership

It should be at least £300-400, that way they will not forget to tax there car next time.

how can you forget about taxing your car, there is reminders, other people, yourself etc to remind you

£115 isn't the minimum. £0 is the minimum, for very old cars or those with very low emissions.

I know, I'm trying to get some ancient car, wearing a breathed on rover v8, and of course, tax free

never forgot to tax a car, I mean, theres a sticker on your windscreen every day of the week that tells you when you need to do it:bang: and they write to you!

I have however forgot MOT, for about 3month!! was running 3cars and a van at the time and got my dates mixed up, so one got mot'd early, the other got nought

yes agree with sliding scale system, 2weeks, then amonth fee, then big fines and stuff following a month!

remember insurance may be void if tax/mot are expired

I never got a reminder for mine a few months back, was by luck I checked my tax disc about 5 days before it ran out -_-

I have every thing set 3 months appart so know to expect a cost. Insurance in Sept, Service in Dec, Tax March, and MOT June.

I don't think it that hard to remember to Tax and MOT the car.

What p'ees me of though is the amount of un-insured people. I had some prick overtaking some one in a 30 and he almost hit me head on (he must have been doing about 60), I flashed my lights and sounded the horn and the Tw@t gave me the middle finger. From looking at the state of his E-reg Suzuki, it probably wasn't taxed, MOT or insured. This is why are insurance premiums are so high!

All it takes is a brain or a calendar to remember these things :D

I know that i have my tax in June, Insurance in May, and that my first MOT is due in May (but im getting it done earlier as its free with my 3rd year service) :p
