So an English teacher is to be charged with Blasphemy, because some children in Khartoum want to name their class Teddy bear Mohammed?

Whatever next..... :(

it was a very irresponsible thing to do if you live in a muslim country, especially a country that is such an active arab league player.

when i was growing up i knew that i had to say "peace be upon him" every time i mentioned the prophet, if i didnt i could cause major offence very easily. saying something bad about the prophet would get you locked up for life no matter what the british embassy tried to say or do. it may seem backward to westerners because saying jesus sucked a donkey's knob is perfectly acceptable, but thats not a good enough reason to ignore foreign culture and assume they will feel the same way, especially when you live there.

end of the day she broke the law in the country she lived in, for that she deserves to be punished in line with local law. imagine if an arab came to the uk and married 6 women, would you say its ok because he isnt familiar with uk laws and customs? it doesnt matter if you know about local laws or if you agree with them, they still apply.

the kids suggested it but she allowed it. when living in a muslim country you should know that you may only call a boy mohammed, anything else is considered idolatry, which is a serious offence.

funnily enough mohammed is now the seond most popular name for a baby boy in the uk. are you scared?

Pmsl nah I'm not scared Jug. Its a fact of life and a minority concern TBH.

Cant the kids get shuvd into the Slammer too then? I guess the adult takes responsibility.

generally in islamic countries you need to be aged 11+ to go to jail. in sudan it is offically 10, however that law is often ignored and younger children are jailed. that said, in this case responsibility falls 100% on the teacher for allowing it. she was in a position of responsibility and had the opportunity to prevent this regarldess of what the kids suggested.

i feel sorry for her and i hope the british embassy can strike a deal and make a donation to the sudan govt in exchange for her release. high profile cases like thia often end with a bit of bribery, at great expense to uk tax payers.

Bu**er innit... damn religeon of all denominations I say, I bet THATS Blasphemous too! I gotta say "serves them right for working there".

No ASBOS in Sudan then? :D

So it seems this is a Political row, veiled (scuse the pun) within a religeous aspect, and driven by the fundamentalists Sudanese government with a hidden agenda against the UK, which is embarrassing to the Muslim majority in Sudan and the UK and probably the world. Nothing really to do with 99% of the Sudanese people. :)

if the children are muslim then they should have known better than too ask to call it that not defending the woman although she cant be expected to read up on the law before she went there to teach them the english language so they can no doubt move here get a house and a job.

With this government they wouldn't do anything and pay them family allowance on all the kids as well  ..this country now hasn't got the balls any more to sort this out we are regarded as second class citizens in our own country ..we can no longer call this country Great britain ..yes I am very pissed off with this and some thing needs to be done now and not later ..

All religious belief whether its christian, Islam or Zoroastrianism (sp) that causes people to be stoned, whipped, imprisoned or put in fear of immediate personal violence is not faith.

To me that kind of 'faith' a is mental illness, something you should be sectioned for. If the Sudanese court imprisons this woman or does anything to her it will prove to a lot of people that they are animals and not deserving of our respect or charity.

RELEASE THE TEDDY BEAR 1

This sort of interpretation of Islam makes it sound more like a cult than a religion.

And it will no doubt cause a great deal of racial tension again in the UK and the EU in general ..do we as humane beings want to continue down the road of blood and tears .can we not live together in peace and harmony there is only one god albeit each and every religion has a different name ..but still the same god and whether you believe or not is this the way to force another person into believing ..God help us all

click the link listen to the music and please reflect befor its to late

Was watching something on TV other day (the 1920's in colour?) about this french photographer & the huge amount of films/pictures they found of his....anyway alot was from Morocco as it said/showed all religions living together happily & mentioned that the modern day extremism is only a recent 'political' propaganda for extreme groups to gain popularity.

According to the paper this morning ..she has now escaped the lash and has been sent to jail for a period of 2 weeks ..will feel more like 2years in their hell hole of a jail ..

Their idea of justice is medieval, I think as soon as this woman is home we should ask their ambassador to leave and withdraw ours from Khartoum. We have to show that we will not let British citizens be treated like this. Ever since those sailors were captured by the Iranians everyone thinks the British are soft.
