Exclamation Important to us all. Car Repairs.

www.r2rc.co.uk

This is a move to help non-franchised motor repairers get access to vehicle Fault codes by reducing the current trend by vehicle manufacturers to provide data only to their franchisees. Leaving only the most mundane tasks to owners and private garages. Well, we have seen how difficult it is getting these day to even change a headlamp bulb, so if you want to see what the r2rc thing is about and lend your weight to their case on removing this monopoly, take a look.

Re: Important to us all. Car Repairs.

but it misses a few points.......

you can get your car serviced wherever you like anyway,as far as 'recommisioning after repairs' I can think of key/immobiliser codes...do we want this information accessible to everyone?

Most franchises offer services as cheap as (or cheaper) than most anyway such as fiats bronze, silver & gold services.

Information to dealer franchised information is available to everyone.

Dealers can afford massive budgets on training.

What about the monopoly gas/electric/phone companies have...how much do they sting us for every year compared to a 125 service!

Re: Important to us all. Car Repairs.

Happy to pay 125 for a service so I can drive safe in the knowledge that I can also stop.
Unhappy to pay gas & electric companies 120 per year just so they can bolt THEIR ugly meters to MY house wall.
& the annoying thing is, you have no choice - whichever company you switch to, they'll always slap you with a standing charge.
I think key codes should be restricted to main dealers only BUT charges for new keys / codes should be capped at a reasonable rate to prevent the usual 'main dealer only' ripoff.

Re: Important to us all. Car Repairs.

What about where the local dealer is useless T, and there isn't even one at all in the town where you work, making it impossible to use them even if they were any good? I also don't find their prices particularly cheap and dread to think what BMW charge p/h. So I rely on my local garage having a diagnostic tool, even if it usually does just tell me my windscreen washer bottle was empty six months ago and filled up the following day

You tend to find (for example) large amounts of fords, fiats & citroens in a particular area because there are local dealers there.People tend to shop locally (even for cars) but this shouldn't be a reason why you cant buy another make of car I admit.Alfa owners are not happy because often they have to travel long distances as there has been large scale dealer reductions....or should i say dealers dont really want Alfa anymore?

On the topic of FIat,if you find yor local dealer is not good then let Fiat UK know about it...they are listening & 'addressing' the situation. From some posts here fiat servicing is more expensive than most.

But the point is you do have the choice, only warranty work is to be carried out by franchised garage which I think is reasonable as it dont cost the customer anything anyway & this is becoming standard practice in most sectors like corgi registered gas repairers etc who are fully trained.

(did it say screenwash was added aswell)
