Just watched on local news:

3 shootings in 4 days
All 3 in the radford area (i think), i know 2 are near a park next to which I drive everyday to and from school (well, a lot less now i don't go to school but I drove past there twice today, to and from school)
45 extra offices drafted in for high visibility policing
Evidence suggests gun battle this weekend (hence 45 extra police)

Any thoughts?

Mine are questionning what the hell people are doing?!

lost for words, what happened to the good old days when people only got stabbed, glassed, bottled and clubbed

A man (i believe Jamacian) was subjected to racism and complained about it, so they went and beat him up. He agreed to give evidence but refused to go into witness protection etc. because he truly believed he shouldn't be punished for their wrong doings. A few weeks later they went to his house and shot at him several times, he was critical for nearly a week and only just pulled through....

Not hearsay...it actually happened, one of many stories I could tell you about gun crime in Nottingham.

I am seriously scared about this weekend...they don't bring 45 coppers in for nothing and tell people "chance of gun battle between 3 gangs this weekend"! I know which parts of Nottingham to stay away from this weekend...

hey Dave, at least those clubs, bottles and knives are usually discriminative...a bullet fired at 600mph shot badly can kill anybody within a huge range, any poor person happening to be in the way.

i know i wasnt making a joke just pointing out it goes from bad to worse:(

EDIT ok i was making a joke but with a serious edge, Its just that you get people saying it didn't happen in thier day but it did, It's just getting worse now seems its easier to get a gun and get away with using it.

hey sorry dave, I didn't mean to be offensive!

I know what you're saying. My dad always says it - he lived in the bad area of nottingham when he was a student and says that looking at the violence in Nottingham is nothing to the days of when him and his friends used to go out etc. He gave me specific examples of groups - i just can't remember. But he does concede (like you have) that gun crime is a serious problem!

It's a sad day when it's like the way it is - bullet proof vests all round then :(

I don't get why Nottingham - supposedly one of the best cities in the country for shopping etc. has got this problem and they can't sort it out. I am lucky - i live in a small enclosed area which is well away from any of this trouble but my school isn't!

When I was living in Nottingham me and a couple of mates were walking into town, on the way in we found that the road next to the Allied Irish Bank (think thats the one) had be closed off.

We then found out that an arm robbery (with automatic weapons) had literally just occurred there!

Nottingham is just a tad bad on the crime!!

Punto MK2 Sporting 16v, Full Abarth Bodykit + Alloys.

It's a lovely city with some VERY bad areas. It (I believe) has the highest rate of gun crime in the UK - the police are really "pissed off" now about it and getting very serious. After the Jamican was attacked the man came on the radio and said sternly:

"We will get this man, we will charge this man, he will be convited and be locked up for aslong as he can think of and plan the rest of his life behind bars, this man is scum and we will do EVERYTHING in our power to see that he goes down"

I was driving home and it scared me - the man said it with such conviction - just hope all the coppers are so bothered!

Yeah, I can't think of the actual bank you're talking about but the following is the armed robberies I can think of recently:

Mapperley post office, 2 ladies tied down and robbery with weapons commenced - I happened to drive past there 2 mins after they had sped off as the police arrived, never seen so many coppers in one place at the same time!
Jewellry shop in Arnold; think somebody was shot in that one and died? Maybe wrong though.
Natwest Bank (i think....) on errrm, Road from Bobbers Mill into town.....ilkeston/alfreton/nottingham road (never remember which one of about 5 all very similar!) has had not one but TWO armed robberies in about a year.

Those are just off the top of my head; i don't even watch local news much so there will be plenty more :(

In terms of petty crime I am not sure if Nottingham is any worse than anywhere else but i certainly know that on the 2 last occasions in to town i have been troubled by begger type people. I am not a small guy/look particularly well off but i was followed by one of them into a quiet part of victoria cente in the evening, getting aggressive for money, i had to go away so quickly! Every single time I pick my sister up from the station on friday evenings I get this idiot begger who goes around person after person "money?" - not just once, he asks you every minute or so when he comes back around to you. Four times I have gone to ask for the traffic police to come and take him away with the answer "they know about him and have been called"....really....why is he here AGAIN!?

So now I actually do feel threatened sometimes in my own town and I am not kidding. It wouldn't put me off yet, but I know that when I walk past McD's (their fave hang out spot) on culumber street I will be followed by somebody no older than me asking for money etc. The police...what police?! They certainly aren't bothered with those people.

At least we're not as bad as many places in the US, but how long?

P.S don't be scared of nottingham, i could name you bad experiences in most cities I have been to and gun crime is on the rise all over.

It's true - I live in Arnold, where a jeweller was shot and killed at close range, not more than half a mile away from me :(

As you say Paul, Nottingham is a beautiful city - it's just the filthy low life that ruins it for all of us [xx(]

I think it's gone too far already. The documentary on Sunday night hasn't helped matters. Now people will think Nottingham is a drunk's paradise :(

I've been there so many times, seems quite for a city compared with Birmingham and London. Where the Mrs lives in London, one of her friends got mugged at gunpoint. She only had £7 on her but they had that!

Oi oi![V][V][V][V]
