has anyone successfully re-attached a rear view mirror to glass? if so how!?

iv tried super glue for glass- fell off, double sided tape, fell off, carpet tape, strong as nails double sided tape, special glue with a pad, fell off :bang:

any ideas? iv cleaned both surfaces with spirits before, so i know the surfaces are clean.

araldite.make sure you get it right 1st time as it will never come off

Tricky one

my only guess would have been double sided sticky tape. Its holding my front numberplate on like glue or screws :p

Hope someone with better advice can get it sorted for you (y)

Universal silicone from the nearest hardware store.

It is because of the different thermal properties of glass & plastic that pads are the recommended method of fixing.
A couple of tips that I was given...
Always make sure both surfaces are free of grease & debris
Always make sure both surfaces are warm - use a hairdryer.
By attachig the pad to two warm surfaces, the only movement from then on will be contraction which shouldn't unstick anything - whereas expansion would.

Mate of mine tried araldite in a transit and it caused the glass to crack under the glue, my guess is it prevented that area of glass from expanding and contracting along with the rest of the screen.

Tried those interior mirror pads on ebay?

Nope!

Good Advice

:yeahthat:

Yip again!

i think its cos its not directly on glass, the glass has a paint coating over it, so its not actually sticking to glass but to painted glass which i presume the glues for glass wont stick to?

There should be a black section for two reasons:-

1, so dumb people know where it goes

2, so the sun doesn't soften the adhesive and it falls off
