A friend of mine just bought a mint Blue R-reg Punto 60SX with 27k on the clock, it cost £2000 which wasn't a bad deal.

I make the above judgement on that deal and what I saw in the paper to compare at the time.

Paul, £2000 is waaay too much for an R-plate Punto, even in good nick with low miles.
All Mk1 Punto values, bar GT and cabrios, have taken a right pasting recently - in two years my Punto has almost halved in value. It's a '94 L-plate 55SX with 72,000 miles, it cost me £1650 in May 2002, and would only be worth about £900 now if it was standard (not sure if the few mods I've done would affect the price much but there's £400 of audio system in it!).

An R-plate 60SX in decent nick should be between £1100 and £1400 for a private sale.

I compared to parkers and it was £150 lower than it should have been from retail (and he bought it retail) + a week later a similar car was in the evening post for £2100 - that's all I had to go by, i initially thought it was way too high also but looking at what i did it seemed to be where the market was.

erm, why? It makes no difference where you buy it from...

Aslong as you go and check it out (which dave didn't do - he is willing to take the risk) it's no different from going through autotrader. If you pay through paypal (which could be a bad idea for a high value item obviously) you even have some "ok" buyer protection systems!

It's just like going to any car auction and buying a car but with ebay you can usually get more of an idea about the owner and condition etc. as people dislike writing down lies - at car auctions they don't need to lie.

Yeah definately I would buy one off ebay but not without driving it first - that's why I said Dave was braver than me!

Thing is when I sold my Uno I advertised it as "engine runs perfectly" failing to mention that the clutch was well on its way out and slipping like hell. Not sure if I'd do the same on ebay but some people might.

well i got it tonight, my mate drove it back at 80 90 most of the way no problems yet, the scrape on the side turned out to be a big dent that had been knocked out badly, i could have drove away and got bad feed back and said it did not match the discription but it was still not as bad as the other one that sold for more, so i looked at engine no sign of nackered head gasket:) its got tax till end of month that was a bonus:)
i never relised that the 60s never had a tempature gauge:( that wories me will have to see about changing that. all the keys were there and worked:)
it needs a good clean.
i usaly buy cars at local auction but ones like this go for a bit more so can't be bad. when ever ive seen a car in/on auto trader for the right price its always gone when i phone it.
