Re: insurance fronting

oh no, it's the named driver debate again
I think insurance co's are starting to get heavy about it. Maybe they should, insurance is high for young drivers for good reasons.

They should just make everyones insurance really high so there is no point in fronting.

If your 49 year old mum with 12 years no claims had to pay the exact same to insure a car as a 17 year old guy with 9 points and only held a license for 3 months nobody would bother with the fronting.

Could even introduce flat rates.
£2000 for 3rd party and £4000 for fully comp. no matter what car either.

Makes alot of sense don't it.

I think there is more chance of my idea becoming reality first.

Re: insurance fronting

to be honest the insurance companys have to take more blame as the articles show.
questions like does a named driver own any vehicles etc should be asked.
okay fronting can still happen but a young driver owning a car and being a 2nd driver just rings alarm bells

if the insurance co know that the owner is only a named driver they've got nothing to complain about.

Re: insurance fronting

Never did it myself, just saved really hard. I was slighty fortunate that the Seicento wasn't too heavy on insurance and in my first year I only paid £500 as I couldn't have the years free from the dealership. After that with one years under my belt, savings and pass plus I managed to pay off the £1200 bill I had for the next premium in one hit.

My sister though had to take this option of "fronting" though. Her premium was just a joke and she only had an SX version unlike my sporting! So parents did register and insure the car under their name and she was added as a named driver for I think two years. When she got her current Ka thats when she took out her own.

Not wishing on you but lets say you have an accident, your premium has been assessed on your parents being the majority driver. So insurance co. pay out but in the scheme of things lose out big time. Multiply this effect by thousands of people and bingo you have an issue
