Okay then :D.

What cars did you learn to drive in, how long did it take. How many times did it take to pass your test, where did you take it, and who did you learn to drive with. :D

Learnt with:- JEM driver training (based in Cliffe).

Learnt in:- VW Polo 1.9 SDi (instructors), Ford Fiesta 1.4TDCi (instructors), and my own Corsa 1.3cdti.

Had my test in York, passed first time.

Had my first lesson on my 17th birthday - 15th August 2005, passed January 16th 2006.

Can't recall too much, some company called Countrywide I think :chin: I know my instructor used to spend like 3 months in Thailand, and on my lessons used to reach over and beep at anything in a skirt...

Think it was a Black Fiesta, diesel.

First lesson on 17th birthday, July 1989, 5 weeks of lessons [so 3 per week = 15 lessons], then 4 weeks in the Caribbean :slayer: back in September, did 3 more lessons or something, passed in September 1989.

Driving School:- Stanmore School of Motoring (long, long since defunct)

Car Learnt In:- 5 door Austin Metro 1.3L (approx. 1985 model).

Area Test Taken in: Pinner/ North Harrow area.

Had my first lesson: June 1986 when I was 17 years old.

Passed Test in: January 1987 while I was still 17 years old (just).

Number of lessons taken: Approximately 30.

N.B. I had no other car to drive/ practice in, had never driven before and also it took months to get a driving test date. My instructor said I was ready after 15 lessons, but after I sent off for my test the date given to me was FIFTEEN WEEKS later! So I had a load of extra lessons to keep my hand in.

I passed first go too (y)

I also go my full motorcycle licence in December 1987 on the second attempt (y)

Can't believe that was all 20 years ago

learnt to drive with Melson driving school. he does rallying most weekends. Top bloke.

learnt to drive in his 1.5 diesel clio which i quite liked. but the ac blew up a week before my test.
on the day of my test he turns up outside with a black petrol clio. he said it was a 1.4 but it was rubbish only pulled when it was taken above 3500rpm. it was a much lower spec so the seat wasn't adjustable to what i had got used to, handled differently due to the lack of alloys (and lack of lowering possibly)
and it was also the first time i had driven in rain, and it was pouring!!
and that's my excuses for the 4 minors:slayer:

Instructors = Miniscule and JamesAnning.com

Learnt in a Mini One D and a BMW 119d

Time taken = Cant remember, but far too long! Started getting lessons from my dad as soon as I could reach the pedals

Test Area = Tolworth, Surbiton area

instructors: had two. A-pass4u and a local private one.

learnt to drive in a cooperD and a clio 1.2 16v

took my first lesson 2 days after my birthday. so 20th may to 9 august. less than 3 months. failed first test which was july the 11th.

took my test in clacton on sea :)

i learnt in 5 cars lol. my instructor had a nissan micra which he changed for a C3 like 2 lessons before my test (and hence my excuse for failing on a manouver that i'd only practiced in that car a few times :p )
My mum insured me on her doblo, and i soon bought my own cinq to learn in (smaller - easier to practice manoevers in) but that had an MOT coming up and the rust was gonna cause it to fail IMO, so i got rid of that and bought a punto MK1 to practice in instead.

passed just short of 2 yrs ago. God it seems a lot longer ago than that.

I cant believe that i passed nearly 2 years ago (y).

Got 5 minors in my test.
1 - Hesitation at a junction
2 - Lane positioning
3 - Correct use of gears
4 - Use of correct lane at a roundabout
5 - Speed into a slower marked zone

Mom's Toyota Camry, 5 hours of coaching, once, you all won't know where it is anyway, mom.

Driving School:- Delter - one man band

Car Learnt In:- purple 5-door corsa 1.4, the old ones

Area Test Taken in: Wanstead (worst pass rate in my area, but low waiting times :D)

Had my first lesson: May 2005

Passed Test in: August 2005

Number of hours learning: 20

3 minors. One for when I was reversing round a corner and someone came up behind me and stopped, so I went round and did it again like I was briefed to. Still don't know what I did wrong there lol. And 2 for undue hesitation.

Started driving aged 12 in my mates back garden

Then aged 15 to 17 in the yard at work every Sunday morning efore opening time.

First time on the public road, 6.30 am on the morning of my 17 birthday (dragged Dad out of bed).

Learnt in my own Sunbeam Stilletto with Graham Young Driving Instructor, practiced in anything that was going.

Turned 17 September 1976, passed 1st time January 1977.

Cheers

D

I didn't bother either 'till I was about 25. I passed my bike test at 17 and stuck with bikes.
Learnt to drive in my Nans Chevette 1256 :D ... lovely car but I had a few lessons with a driving school and used their Nissan/Toyota/Jap thingy for the test (can't remember what it was)
passed the bike test 1st time (on an MZ :) ) in '82 and passed the car test 1st time in about '89.

Instructor: Martins School of Motoring (Local)
Car: Saxo VTR (Instructors) & Brava SX (Parents)
First lesson I think on or around my birthday (April 99) and passed first time (August 99)
Five minors; 3 Observation, 1 Speeding and 1 Braking
Took my test in Basingstoke. Was 8:40am rush hour and I got the chief examiner!

bought an MOT failure polo coupe RED. learn't to actually move a car about in the field.

then bought a roadgoing polo coupe to drive on the road, and learn't with my dad on the backroads of the lakedistrict/cumbria.

took 9hours of lessson with a bloke from BSM, and probably drove 9 different cars in the time

passed test first time with one minor, which was the cars fault, as hte previous 8 cars had ABS, my test car didn't, and if you excessively lock the brakes on emergancy stop = fail. so i was a bit cautious and got a minor for not stopping quick enough LOL.

then I got a rover 100 1.4, then a punto, and the rest is history.

Still learning now. :p

Had 21 lessons in a 55Plate Ford Fiesta 1.4tdci Zetec ( Loverly smooth car ;))

Passed my theory 1st time. Got my test booked for november.

first lesson july 1999

with the AA

in a fiesta 1.4 ghia

then i bust my clutch foot and had to have 2 operations before driving again.

went back with same instructor for 1 lesson and he retired, went with new AA instructor and he left to work at vodafone.

then went with a family friend who was a BSM instuctor in his BSM corsa. Then just before first test car was changed from Corsa mkI shape to the shap before the current one. and i failed.

Kept on with it and passed oct 2001 (i think) in a corsa.

All corsas were 1.4

since then owned an ibiza 1043i and a 1.2 stilo and had around 20-30 different hire cars and drove plenty others to!

test area wigan (were you dont have to do the car park manourve as it doesnt have one at the test centre)

It was 1985, the miners strike was still on I think, I was 17 and one of the 4 million of Thatcher's unemployed. Can't remember the name of the driving school but, I do remember I learned to drive in a 1982 Toyota Starlet. I got to practice in a 1981 VW Jetta and a Renault 12 from the mid 1970's.
Passed first time :D no theory test, just 30 minute practical and about 4 questions about the highway code. Thats nearly 23 years ago  :p
