Halfords Professionals, excellent guarantee, no problems getting tools replaced etc, no need for keeping receipts etc, if its got Halfords Pro stamped on it and its broken my local place take it back.

Get a trade card, or a friend with one to buy the tools and you get up to 60% off.

Although i do try i keep receipts for them. I did a wee thread on my sig, need to update it with what i actually bought.

I got a bit of cash and im off over to halfords later so il take a look. I just bought a set of teng spanners too :)

Another vote for Halfords Professional...

Excelent for home use.

How do I get a trade card? I thought you needed a business number?

if i won the lottery i'd call snap-on and ask them to send me 2 of everything, absolutely everything, but real life isnt that great so i buy a mixture of tools depending on what i need and how much cash i've got spare at the time. i've got tool sets stored in several different places, i've lent loads out, i've broken more, and i've definately lost track of what i own and where it is, but i'd rather not think about that at the minute because it gets me upset. actually that reminds me, i really need to get my compressor & sprayer back from my step-bro before he assumes i've transferred ownership.

I'm quite lucky as my old man was a mechanic so have quite a nice collection..

Nice size tool chest with a variety of Snap-on, Beta, Falcom and Teng tools as well as various air tools..

But most of the usual culprits have been replaced with halfords one eg 13mm sockets..

Although do have some useful bits like jump starter for starter motors ideal for stealing pre-immob cars (y) Joke

One thing still on my wishlist is a set of ratchet spanners and I think it's going to be the halfords ones that get my vote tbh :)

Hmmm just seen they are 1/3rd off as well

Nope i didnt, i took in a pay slip of when i worked for a chemical engineering company, they didnt even want to see it. If you can somehow justify why you use tools for your work, or show them a wad of receipts for parts etc from motorfactors to prove your a committed home mechanic then your sorted. I just talked to my local guys and told them what i was after and they sorted me out with one then and there.

Now i get the card and nice vouchers through the mail every couple of months.

Remember this WONT get you discount on alloys, led lights etc! Only tools, oil, serviceable's etc. Ok so it'll get you discount on normal lights etc.

If you dont have evidence to back up your claim for getting a card then i'd suggest you dont bother, or at least go to a store you wont be using as do you really want to show your face again in the place where you tried to be something you aint! Go with as much evidence, pay slip, motrofactor recipts etc as you can, then your much more likely to get one.

Alternatively get a friend/relative who is eligible to get one, and take them on shopping trips with you!

Every item has different disocunt, some has none some has loads. Most discount i got was £2.49 down to 43p trade inc vat. Tools i've saved an average of 40%.

I know lots of race mechanics, not one of them would touch a snap-on tool if you paid them. Over priced average quality items. But they do a very good marketing job. People think they are the best, so pay way over the odds expecting them to be the best. Everyone who has them just goes on about how they are guaranteed for life and if you break it, they replace it.

Well, firstly, if they are so good then if it breaks, i don't want a replacement, i want a better bloody tool to start with. Not a great advert is it? Our tools are great (but you may just break them, but don't worry, you can have another :bang: )

Secondly, almost every other brand offer the replacement guarantee, Draper, Sealey, Halfords, Teng, Mac, Facom.

Personally I use a combination of Halfords Pro, Teng and Facom.

The only tools I have broken are cheapo items like Black Cat, Rolson etc etc, so my advice, save up and get a good brand. If you want Snap on, get snap on, but you can get items as good, if not better for less money

I used to buy Snap On all the time, but I am slowly coming round to Halfords Pro tools. These are just as good as Snap On or even Mac, but are half the price.

Also Beta are worth a mention as well.

Yep mate, some of the best hammers I have ever used. Well balanced and plastic shafts to reduce vibration to the user.(y)

Sykes Pickavant are also worth a mention. A lot of the trade use their tools, not really a main stream choice, but very well made, and best of all, most of their range is made in the UK, not the cheap chinese crap that our manufacturing industry is being flooded with.
