One you want to look out for is badgers. Small enough to be unnoticed until the last second and built like a brick lavatory.

Although friends partner hit a Fox in an Audi TT and that basically wrote the car car off. Destroyed the front end to the point it cost 2.5k to put it right but had damaged electrics etc so was beset with issues from that point on. The garage did say to bin it and it'll never be the same but they spent the money anyway..

Short version..don't hit anything it's expensive and can be painful :ROFLMAO:

Ad.just popped up at top of the previous forum page..
'Choose your dream Vauxhall Mokka today'

Pretty straightforward actually :

Grille and lights : Alfa Stelvio
Powerplant : FCA supplied
Interior : Maserati SUV

AS that old car ad stated :

'Some day..
all cars will be built this way'

(y) :p

Much as I'm partial to a bit of PSA crap...if the Vauxhall Mokka is your dream and not a car that does the job and doesn't cost a f**k tonne of money then we'll it's a sad day.

Not aimed at you personally just the Ad in general!

I think they left the factory like that

If only there'd been Suicide squads of foxes outside ingolstadt the world may not have known the mk1 TT...

This was the same person who called me an idiot for repairing my car before it left me stranded somewhere. They had something on their breakdown cover that paid for parts if you had to get recovered. They had used it many times on their Passat, I just said I'd never have used it. Which generated a "Why?" to which the answer was "I fix things before they become major problems...". That makes me an idiot apparently.

A thing that made me smile today would be remembering their face a few months after this conversation after they had to get to relay recovered with their family from from the lakes on a bank holiday weekend...got back at 11pm to start work at 8am and had to get the bus in cos neither the TT or Passat were working that day.

Small things..

Parler is back online. Thank god. It’s important we don’t let Google, Facebook, Twitter and Amazon call the shots when it comes to deciding what we can and can’t say. Glad to see it back online as a matter of principle.
Things which are good - social media sites not controlled by big money.
Things which are not good - social media sites which allow hatred/bigotry/intolerance to proliferate.

I don't care who runs your social media network, no one who voices their disdain against a group of people based solely on their race, colour or creed should have any platform open to them.

D'y'know, I've never looked at all this social media "thing" but I enjoy engaging in conversations on here although I feel some despair and discomfort at some of the views being expressed which is why I mostly restrict my interventions to stuff about cars. So can anyone tell me what is social media all about? What might I expect to do with a facebook (for example) account if I did open one? I suppose I just don't "get" it but I'm just wondering if I'm missing out on anything? On the other hand maybe all this sitting home and not being able to get out and "do things" is just leaving my mind wandering?

On a happier note, the Twink, our Ibiza, passed her MOT yesterday! I suppose at only 5 years old and with just over 20,000 miles on the clock she shouldn't have failed, but it's nice to see her pass without even a notification of any sort. After the event I asked what they thought of the cracks in the tyres but in their opinion they are not significant at this time - and I would agree - but I'll keep an eye on them and I'm probably going to buy tyres this year anyway.

So, someone "up there" must be keeping an eye on my case, doubt very much if it'll be the "big man" himself though, the file on my pathetically insignificant life will have been passed to a very minor minion many years ago and will no doubt be gathering dust in the "of little interest - no action at this time" pile or just maybe it'll have been passed to St. Peter with a note for possible consideration in the not too distant future?

Stay safe everyone.
Jock

If you've avoided getting into social media sites until now, then I wouldn't be able to (nor want to) sell it to you.
These sites are a good idea in principle - post what's going on in your life so that those you want to keep close can feel like theyre a part of the minutia of your day-to-day (that depends on how much you share, of course). The real issue is the proliferation (yes, word of the day for me) of advertising and unrelated information gathering/sharing which has turned these places from fun ways to keep in contact with friends and family, into ways that companies can try to sell you crap you don't need whilst you sift through their crap to find the nuggets of things your friends and family shared.

Thanks Eclipse I must say I/we (Mrs J and I) manage just fine without it. With my daughter and her family being at the other end of the country, and not now having been with them for close to a year and little prospect of seeing them soon, we've been feeling, just of late, that maybe we should do some of this "stuff" but, since we got a Portal, that's improved communications enormously, soooo much better than Facetime etc - So I think we'll just stay "disconnected"!

Must say I was totally underwhelmed at the prospect of getting the Portal and my daughter had to really twist our arms over it - in fact she bought one and shipped it to us! - Now we have it though I think it's wonderful. With our quite large screen TV it's just like we are all in the room together!

My real name is Frazer, and everyone spells it Fraser.
This is why I spelled my "handle" Eklipze, and yet even with it written in front of you, you get it wrong ;) :D

The times I've written it it takes me far more concentration than it should to spell it with a K!

Then again I'm forever getting Ph'd at work...email from me..has my name at the top and bottom...thanks Stephen. Nearly as annoying as Steves who are a Stephen, no mate you're a Steph.

Anywho what has made me smile today. Sister in laws cat has been missing for quite some time now since before the cold snap, obviously can't go door to door looking for it. So been keeping an eye out when go for runs etc but not seen it. Given it's been -8 at points it is either dead or living with someone else.

The bit that actually made smile is she thought "he loves cooked fish, I'll make some and leave it near the cat flap with it open overnight, maybe he'll come back". Any who she did so and low and behold she heard the catflap go after a bit and downstairs she goes. She has a new pet...bit more ginger and..100% more vulpine than the cat she was looking for. But hey not everyone can say they've had a fox in the front room :ROFLMAO:

Bless her...

I fall prostrate before your feet in supplication and ask for forgiveness? I can only plead that I'm married to a retired school administrator who is an absolute stickler for spelling things "correctly". I know she even used to pull the teachers up for spelling on written requests! At least you didn't have to put up with "Jockstrap" which was what I had to suffer under for most of my school days!

Hi Frazer
That made me smile :)
Thank you

I am usually 'good' with names..

I wrote Frazer..
Then thought '600 yamaha'..

And swapped the zed for an esse ;)

Just be glad youve not got a name spelling that leads people to believe you are a different gender..

My multinational employer took 9 weeks to set up an account using my name..

Turned out they got confused over their own rules about upper and lower case.. then the IT helpdesk kept referring to 'she'..

My friend traded in his i40 for a nearly new Hyundai i30 N with about 600 miles on it... It's phenomenal! (who'd have thought the Koreans had it in them?!)

First thing he wants to do ... take it on the Scotland 500 trip. But wait, our excuse of a government here in NI extended lockdown... again... until April 1st, can only imagine what prank they have in store for us that day!!

I totally agree, Parler - just like any other site - has a reporting / blocking policy for stuff like that, which I agree there is no room for.

However... Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, Twitter all used publicly / privately to organise and fund terrorism like BLM and they treated that differently - it was every bit as bigoted, racist etc - a more deadly, than the horrific events of early Jan.

I don't care what the cause is, race / colour / creed / political viewpoint being used to justify censorship - or violence - is not acceptable. So I think we agree there.

It's the double standard with those big social media companies I find the problem. I'm glad that here in the UK and Europe, the government won't let things deteriorate or impact our society as much as in the US.

Big Tech has proved that we should always worry about censorship because who watches the watchers? The left have been on a roll recently because Big Tech is basically playing it that way. But the big point is that a change of wind can easily swings things the other way. That would be just as wrong and just as dangerous.

Blocking free speech leads to underground activity. That's where the really nasty stuff takes off. When it's out in the open we can all see who the idiots and loud mouths really are and treat them accordingly.
