What's made you smile today?

Saw a Ferrari 250GT SWB pootling through the village yesterday! Looked genuine too but I couldn't believe any get actually driven.

I hope it doesn't belong to the granny farmer up the road he already has a Veyron, Enzo and a Merc 300SL gullwing as well as his everyday cars like a Bently GT and Phantom. That would make me even more sick.

You can just imagine the Tokyo marketing team asking a focus group of Australian ex-pats what would be a good car name.

Oh yeah wowza mayte. That's Stallion spelled S-T-A-R-R-I-0-N.
Nah Mayte that's ugly. It should be S-T-A-R-i-0-N.
Naow wurries mayte.
Bonza.

"Mitsubishi says "Starion" is a contraction of "Star of Arion" — and refers to both a star and the mythical horse, Arion."

Agreed about the name contractions but only the Japanese would not see the funny side of the choice.

It's like the Citroen BX TR spec diesel was TRD in France but not in UK ;)

Vauxhaul Nova was the Corsa on all other markets because No Va = wont go in latin languages.

What made me smile today .....well it seems we are finally gonna buy the 400 square mtr plot of land next to our house ..we have been asking for ten years and today the guy who owns it has at last taken the topography that we had done and agreed a price ....whooooo hooooo ...this means a workshop and off road parking , guest room with loo and shower and galley kitchen , new septic tank , bigger hen run , fruit trees , and future proofing our life here...

A very old tin of WD40 on the shelf at my Uncle's house.
Seems its rust preventative properties might be needed.

Anyone any idea why the forum has turned the pic sideways?

Some clips on the build in fridge door broke meaning every time you opened and closed it, the wooden door would bang against the metal door of the fridge.

Solution, 10 mins in a 3D design program and print out some replacements.

Even 2 years ago I would not of dreamed of solving these little house hold problems in this way and this easily.

I don’t thing you can buy these clips I don’t even know what the fridge brand is as it’s a build in one.

Being beeped by a young lad in an old Golf as I merged in turn just in front of him, having rolled past the 5 cars in the queue behind him, as the dual carriageway became single lane. The line was moving walking pace, there were reasonable gaps, doubt he had to touch his brakes. Then he gave me a blow of his horn and angry shakes of his body as he overtook us, doing more than 60, as we rolled at 50 in a 50 limit, on the subsequent stretch of dual carriageway. It must feel good to be so self righteous.

Mini roundabouts

They make me smile with amusement and fume with anger.

I treat them like any roundabout as per the highway code. i.e. give way and negotiate.

For me give way is slow down, possibly almost to a stop, and if another party reaches the entrance line then let them go. I'll stop and if they are also unsure I'll show then my hand waving them on. If no one is at the roundabout I'll take the effort to try and circulate around the painted dot in the road.

I hate the "straight liners" who are going across and give no care or priority to those who are entering from the left.

These straight line jockeys (illegal) have made life even worse because when I slow and stop to give way to the car on the right who reached the give way/entrance before me they just often sit there expecting me to just drive in. So we now have tow stationary cars with nobody going anywhere.

Now this will make you all smile.

2000+ BHP traction ring with 10, 50 or 100 concrete/metal block in tow. Also full video coverage especially on the side of the block. Approach mini roundabout and come to stop. As the straight liner storms in then before he/she reaches the give way line rev the engine, drop the clutch and put the big block in their path. The video alone of sheer panic etc. is a good seller.

No insurance issues either as the video will show that they had no intention of giving way and you enter the roundabout before them.

What really pisses me off is that whenever I've seen a marked police vehicle in a similar situation everybody backs off. This is a clear indicator that they know what they are doing and don't give a F unless they could be prosecuted.

I'm think of starting a "Rent A Mobile Give Way Road Block" business. :D

I'm making homemade rhubarb jam today. Neighbour has copious amounts of the vegetable & left 4lbs of the stuff at my back door. Used to make jam years ago & again this makes me feel good, all down to the feel good factor.....:)

If anyone is interested...4lbs rhubarb & 4lbs jam sugar makes 10 jars of jam. You will need a thermometer & boil the hell out of the stuff:D I managed to burn myself:rolleyes: Makes nice wee prezzies for the people you love/like...:).

Well, now there's a coincidence! My daughter and her two (teenage girl and younger boy) have arrived, from deepest darkest Wiltshire, to spend the week with us - Husband has wisely pleaded work commitments! Mrs Jock has just this moment come in from the garden with a couple of fistfuls of rhubarb stalks! Rhubarb crumble with at least as much depth of crumble as rhubarb has long been a favorite with my daughter. It has to be flooded with custard for me. Come to think of it anything with lots of custard does it for me!

In a contrast to last Saturday...today's mission was somewhat more light hearted and less hard work.

Working on a very Famous GMC Vandura!

It may be a toy my wife bought me about 10 years ago it's been at my dads since then pretty much unused. Now munchkin is chasing stuff round the floor I thought it was a perfect moment to bring it back to life.

Thankfully the batteries had not leaked despite being 5 years over the use by so new batteries, polished an inch of dust off and away it went..only to discover it had no steering.

Could hear a motor running but no actual turning. I built a few RC cars back in the day so thought I'd have a look took the top off expecting a servo with a screw loose. Instead greeted with a black plastic box..with a spinny thing that catches a pole on the steering rack..very made in china for pennies. Said spinny thing isn't providing enough torque to overcome a spring that centres the steering rack hence no steering. So black box to bits having dismantled the front suspension and steering rack which naturally was a blocking a few screws. Find out said black box is a gearbox which is reducing an electric motor that looks like it should be driving a scalextric car and looks massive for the job. I can only assume this set up is cheaper than steering servo despite having about 4 times as many moving parts.

Anyway discover a hairline crack in the cog that takes the power from the motor and hand craft a high friction solution to increase the diameter of the shaft and roughen the surface the gear sits on! Masking tape FTW.

Back together and we have a working A Team van, and it does donuts..sweet.

Edit: Just looked it up on Ebay...I need to keep my son away from it!

News of the powercut following demolition of Didcot A..

Its been offline for 5 years..

Power stations tended to be built with a huge substation next door. ;)

The "earthquake" could have tripped a high voltage breaker.

If Didcot was still running we would not have had the recent power cuts.
