the guns that are a problem are already illegal, you get a jail sentence for possession. thats more severe than any drug law.
guns were more widely available 20 years ago, and even more widely available than that 50 years ago, so you cant say the rise in gun crime is due to an increae in guns on the street.
the difference is these days kids grow up in a world where gun culture is a fact of life. guns are glamorised in games and on tv, 2 of the biggest influences on young people. it doesnt matter what your parents or teachers say because tv knows best, and it just so happen that tv teaches you to be a G, treat bitches like hoes, pop a cap in any fool that dis's you, respect your hood and homies, and generally live the hustler lifestyle like every true G should. thats so totally gay i cant believe the young dumb fsuckers go for it, but they do because they are badly educated and they get bombarded with this gansta culture every day, everyone wants to be snoop dog.
all you can do to protect yourself is make sure you work hard in life so you can live in a community where gun crime isnt a problem. if you live in a poor innercity estate you are statistically far more likely to be a victim of gun crime, especially if you're black. thats not a coincidence.
you say "shouldn't the government be saying enough is enough", at the end of the day very few people (who vote) live in an area where gun crime is a problem. antisocial behavior has increased all over the country, you expect the worst areas to be experiencing the most severe type of antisocial behavior, and they do, but average joe only has to put up with kids drinking in bus stops and the occasional bit of vandalism. gun crime is still a problem for young black men from a poor background with little education, until that changes average joe will simply see it on the news and not worry about it half as much as the kids on his street corner drinking white lightning. even if we get as bad as america that will still be the case.
