the old black and red wiring tends to have a plastic coating that goes brittle, then the next time you play with the wire you break the insulation somewhere.

New brown and blue wire has plastic coating - just a different colour.

Are you thinking of the much older rubber coated black and red which indeed does go brittle and cracked?

Having a nearly 200 year old house means I've seen pretty much every type of wire since electricity was invented

Kids taoday are just daft, my missus's brother got half way through his nursing course and decided it wasn't for him, what has he being doing since?? He is a care assistant on minimum wage. Idiot.

Lot of difference between a care assistant and a nurse. If he couldn't hack it then so be it. I know I wouldn't be able to.

from what I see, nursing assistants spend a hell of a lot more time with patients than nurses, well Psych nurses on wards anyway, not sure about general. That is if by care assistant he meant nursing assistant still gonna do my training next year though
