I had Epi-Lasik on Monday, it's horrible, the procedure was pain free but the recovery time has been excruciating, my head, eyes and nose ache, in hindsight I might not have had it done. My far sight is returning, but I still wouldn't drive, as for my short sight, this is the first time I've attempted to view the interweb, I'm going to give it up, al blurry, can't read a thing!

Sorry if there are any errors.........................

just think, the surgeon used a blunt, plastic oscillating blade to loosen the epithelial sheet, and then a plastic blade, called an epithelial separator, to separate the sheet from the eye. after the epithelial flap is made, it is lifted and folded out of the way. then a laser is used to 'sculpt' the underlying corneal tissue. then the epithelial flap is placed back on the eye with a kind of spatula. a contact lens is placed on the eye to keep the flap in place while it re-epithelializes.

WTF!!!!! :yuck:

the fact you can still see at all is a miracle. your eyes have been vandalised!!

It didn't take me long to realise what a risk laser-eye surgery was. It's perhaps the most important of our senses. If it was taste-bud surgery then maybe that wouldn't be too much of a loss if it went wrong, but eye surgery?

I've decided to stick with my contact lenses - they work brilliantly. I have never 'lost' a lens and I very rarely get dust in my eyes during the day. In my opinion, these are one of the best medical inventions ever. I realise that they may not be saving lives in the third world, but I'm sure that some of my money spent on contact lenses/solutions etc. is ending up somewhere spent on a live-saving project?

Otherwise I would have a pair of -5.00 lenses suspended on a metal frame somewhere in front of my eyes, sometimes at an angle, often dirty, with vision 'leaked' around the edges, never seeing anything to the sides ever again. Yet somehow I would be allowed to drive a car in that condition...

Instead I have pretty much the life of someone who doesn't wear glasses. I never used to wear glasses when I was at school, which as you can imagine was a bit of a shame, missing out on sports etc. I always used to wonder how people found it so easy to play tennis, catch a cricket ball etc. I found that it was difficult guesswork. Later I realised just how much forward-warning they had!

Anyway Twincamms, well done for getting up the courage to have the procedure done (y)

I'm sure you'll have to give it a week or a month to become accustomed to the result, and then you'll be right as rain and probably trying to convince the doubting-Thomases like me! ;)

Cheers,
-Alex

Thanks for your sympathy guys!

Well, my long sight has been restored, it's brilliant, I can only describe it as a medical miracle, far more clarity than with glasses or contacts!

However, my short sight is still to return, apparently, this takes longer as your eyes have to work hard for the adjustments made. The pain is over and I'm well on the road to recovery.

I'll be promoting the clinic soon, if anyone wants this treatment, let me know, I'll get £25 for everyone I recommend and I can talk to you about how to get a good deal, I negotiated a really good price.

Ah, I can now see close objects too, things are becoming clearer by the day!

Technology eh ??? Who'd have thought it 50 years ago ???

Eyesight fixed by a five second blast of a laser !!!

I've made an appointment at Sunderland eye informary for an assessment consultantion for laser eye surgery.
At the moment, my son keeps on breaking my glasses and if i wear contacts i have to have eye drops every few hours due to dry eyes.
I have thought long and hard about this decison, so going to see what the people at Sunderland say.

Good to hear your sight has now returned :)

I didn't start wearing glasses until I was 21, I could never ever get used to them or accept having to wear them, I know it sounds gay but I've always felt vulerable and less manly wearing glasses.

Anyway, with my biking hobby, glasses under a helmet really didn't work, so I decided that when I could afford it, I'd have laser correction to cure my short sightness. In the meantime I used daily contact lenses, I'd done this for five years and thought, what a waste, £25 a month, I could better invest that money.......................................

At last I got a good deal, I had been quoted anywhere between £2000 - £3400 for the treatment I needed but eventually got a deal, £890 for Epi-Lasik + Wave Front treatment for both eyes.

It's great, well worth the money and my sight is improving daily. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

I am lying anyway, my sight isn't perfect :(

I couldn't do laser of contacts though, eyes scare me too much, it would just be glasses.

But I don't think I will, I am not bad with body parts (I originally planned on being a doctor!) but eyes, eyes I can't deal with :(

I've just changed from monthly contacts to daily contact. I should have been using eye drops when i wore my glasses as well as contacts over the past year but no one told me.

Did it take long from initial assessment to having the laser treatment? Been considering this for a few months and now i'm taking the next step......
How long did you have to wait from having each eye done?

I was booked in on the 16th July at 1215 for a full consultation, topographical assessment and psychological preparation and sign consent forms and questionaire.

At 1400 I was sent away to consider and make sure I was happy to proceed.

At 1600 I returned and had the procedure, at 1610 it was all over, I was sent home at 1700.

Easy!

I originally got a mailshot offering me a two for one offer, but when I called the sales team this was only available at the Aberdeen clinic as business is slow there. They said they'd honour the price of £890 if I went there.

I checked easyjet and it was £128 for a flight and hotel, I contemplated it then phoned and booked the assessment. Luckily, I didn't book the flight and hotel, because after a night sleep, I thought why should I fly to Aberdeen when there is a clinic four miles up the road.

So I got back onto the sales team and they wouldn't budge, they said there was a five to six week waiting list here and this clinic was oversubscribed.

I then decided to phone the MD and told him my story, he said he'd get back to me. Within an hour, he phoned me and said there was a cancellation at my local clinic on the 16th July and if I could make it he'd honour the Aberdeen offer. Job done, two eyes for the price of one, £890.

If any of you are interested I will happily refer you, I get £25 for each referal and I can also get you a very good price...................................
