but cars capable of 100mph plus tend to be more efficient at motorway speeds due to longer gearing. maybe we should just stop the safety items. so if you do go more than 100 you die! at least cars will be more efficient. silly man.(y)

my cinque could do 100 and that wasnt safe.

No car is safe over 100 anyway. Didnt 5th gear crash test a smart at 70, and while the shell was in tact both people would have died of the deceleration

i got more chance of shacking up with helena christiansen than this going through, you think VW, europes biggest player, with audi, seat, bentley, lambo, etc under their wing would go "yeah, for sure", add in bmw, porsche (who now seem to control VW), mercedes, a billion german tuning houses, and thats just one industrial country that would be up in arms.....

I agree with it to a point where cars should be geared to make better economy for the types of speeds we face.

I think it's a good idea. And it could happen. Not this year or next but it could well happen eventually.

There is no earthly need for a road car to exceed 100mph. If cars were restricted to 100 then manufacturers could concentrate on making cars work best at the speeds that they're actually going to travel at. They'd still have their acceleration figures to boast about.

99% of people don't do over 100mph anyway and preventing those idiots that do from doing so is hardly going to make the roads more dangerous.

My Tipo will tickle 130mph ish, as will my Marea. Just because they can do 100mph+ doesn't mean that I do. What it does mean is that I can cruise at 70 while still maintaining an efficient drive, and in the case of the tipo enjoy country roads as I have the power available.

As for concentrating on efficiency - they are already. Most cars, even the ones that can do 130mph are most efficient around 60-70mph.

dotto really, marea will top more than 130 on gps but why? i get sub 18MPG at that speed! cam get 30odd at 60-80mph (y)
