Afternoon Everyone

hope you are enjoying the sunshine

I need everyones help, i am the sort of person who needs a project at all times.

In Jan i bought the yellow sporting which i repaired and have on the road and is excellent. Then two weeks ago i bought a standard Cinq which i am currently working on but is already sold to the mother in law as she liked it so much.

Now i am looking for a new project and i have set my sight on a (non fiat) Renault 5 GT Turbo but i want a standard one with no c*ap on it, i do not care on condition or age or if it is a runner or not i just want one.

I have had a quick search and they are quite hard to find, but if you know where one then please shout and yes i will be keeping the spoting forever.

Ebay and the motoring weeklys are your friends here. The autotrader website will be better if you want to cover the area nationally.

Be prepared to travel for something like this, standard ones are getting rare, even projects fetch good money so you might have to pay over the odds for something that isnt even completed

I did think that, i do not mind having a uncomplete one as then i can crack on with a project.

All the ones i have seen lately have been done up rubbish.

we need more people willing and able to keep the classics alive, espcially clean standard examples (y)

an R5 is a worthy cause. its not suitable as a daily driver imo, but its a prime candidate for an involving project that should give you plenty to play with.

a few years ago i regularly found good examples in scrapyards, now i dont see any, and the ones that are on the roads are usually worse than the scrap from yesteryear. thats not a good thing for parts availability, and it doesnt make parts cheap either, but it does make this type of project more worthwhile. if you can get an R5 and turn it into a standard minter you'll have something that holds value very well and is easy to sell.

here's one in warrington that should be worth a look: http://www.adtrader.co.uk/detail.php?class_id=110&aid=12340775

and look at this beauty (minus badboy bonnet): http://www.adtrader.co.uk/detail.php?class_id=110&aid=12236226

I have not seen a standard R5 for years so that is why i have chosen one to sort out.

I like the orignal car too, my mum bought one brand new in 1988 and it was excellent i loved going out in that car.

I must find one

Cheers Nick
