Back in Aprill I arranged to buy a Punto HGT backbox from a member who was advertising in the classifieds section. I suggested to use paypal but he didn't want to because of the fees so I transfered the money to his bank via a bank transfer on the 30-Apr.

He was on the ball checking weather I had made the transfer, how long would it take etc.

On the 11-may I emailed him asking were it was and he was quick to reply saying he had been ill and was unable to send, but assured me it would be sent the next day.

After still not receiving it I chased him again getting a reply on the 22-May saying that royal mail had sent it to the senders address and again assured me he would send it the next day on recorded delivery.

This is the last response I have had. since then I have sent many emails / Pm's and had no replies. I can see he is still logging into the forum and even making posts.

This is turning out to be a real nightmare. My car has been off the road now for 6 weeks now, I paid £90 for the backbox over the forum and now looks like im going to be forced to goto fiat and spend £150 on backbox from them.

Has anybody been in this situation before and have any advice. All i want todo now is have my money back and Ill buy it from fiat.

The only details I have is his email and back account details.

Im not going to name the member now. Hopefully he will see this and the prospect of being named may get him to reply to me. if not ill let you all know very shortly.

As I said, any advice much appreciated.

if he's in the north east of england PM me his name and address and i'll have a word for you ;)

you could buy an HGT backbox for £10 at a scrapyard, finding an HGT isnt easy so get on the phone to all scrapyards near you. then you can save some money and demand a refund from the time waster.

in future if someone wont accept paypal, dont do the deal. i wouldn't because anyone who is on the net has no good reason to not have a paypal account. fees are no excuse, you can pay extra if they really kick up a fuss (usually 2.5%)

Lol, thnks jugg. like I said, dont have an address only email and bank details. I know for next time to always use paypal. Have been looking around the scrapyards but as you say, HGT's arent so easy to find and seems to be impossible in cornwall!!.

i bet that email address is registered with paypal. why not make a 1p payment to paypal using that email address. then you'll have his real name and postal address, plus next time he checks his paypal he'll know that you do.

PM a mod as its for a punto id PM dave and see what he says about it.

Let him know the forum username as well

Now has been reported and will be dealt with by the appropriate MOD.

Tidyboy this is unfortunate but be assured steps will be taken to try to resolve this.

If this proves to be unsuccessful from the mod's I will take it on board in my professional capacity.

what was his trader rating? go to your bank and ask them to reverse the transfer and pass the sellers bank details onto their fraud department

Slightly off topic - how does one go about getting a trader rating? ****ed a few parts over the forum in the past.

This will be dependant on a few things.

Firstly, if its the same bank as yourself, the process should be as easy as pie. Just need to open a dispute on the payment.

Secondly, if not with the same bank, you need to justify to your bank firstly, why he doesnt deserve the money and its its a maestro payment, its classed as cash and is very difficult to reverse. Only way to find out is to do what dave says and speak to your bank.

Then its very important that you come back on here and let us all know what happened!! :D

in theory people leave feedback for you after a sale, in practice this never happens because the ad expires before they leave feedback. i've sold at least 10 things and only got a trader rating of 1. that 1 bit of feedback i got was only because a mod helped the buyer do it.
