Hey peeps, thinkinga bout getting one of these http://www.hyosung.co.uk/detail.php?id=7 after next payday, looks good in the flesh and sounds decent for a 125, seems pretty nippy on road and 80 mpg as well, whats everyones thoughts? Will be my first bike as well, never had anything like this before. Cheers, Liam.

Re: Yay? Or Nay?

Sod that! Buy an old Yamaha RD125YPVS or TZR 125 for about 500, rebuild the engine, peg the powervalve in the fully open position, discover what wild two stroke 'powerbands' are all about and have a smile as big as a Cheshire cat until the engine goes pop! Then rebuild the engine again and go and have more fun

Sure the Hyonsungowatsit looks nice, but you aren't going to have much fun with a tiny four stroke vee twin. I bet it has sod all power/ acceleration. Plus when you pass your test you won't be de-restrict it because, well, it wouldn't be restricted in the first place.

I really miss my Yamaha RD 350 YPVS and its two stoke lunacy... *sigh*

Re: Yay? Or Nay?

Thought of 4 stroke for more torque not having to rev the knackers off the thing to make it go appeals to me, not after something surpr quick, its not as quick as cinq but it'll learn me a lot and then ill be getting a zx6r i think, lots of hills where i live and the 2 strokes seem to stuggle with them. The one i looked at seemed very well built tbh, sounded like a proper bike as well, comes with a blueflame silencer with removable baffels, cant tell its a 125 by looking at it either, well as soon as its debadged.

My mate has the 125 GTR in yellow, hes had it since jan nothing has went wrong yet, i love the sound specialy for a 125cc, even better if you remove the db killer out from the exhaust (a sound limiter by law)

Re: Yay? Or Nay?

i aggree with 1986uno! if you want to have fun, get a 2 stroke, mine is 33BHP, leaves 4 strokes standing in both acceleration and top spend (110 mph)

A two stroke of equivilient capacity will always produce more torque believe it or not. It has twice as many firing strokes compared with a four stroke, though obviously many are highly tuned so have sod all power low down in the rev range.

As for not having to rev the knackers off it, you obviously never rode a Honda CB125T! Look also at a lot of the 4 stroke Jap import 4 cylinder 250's with redlines approaching 15,000 rpm. I'm sure there was one available that went to nearly 19,000 rpm! Small four strokes have to be revved - if you want torque then you need capacity and 125cc ain't enough

But with emission laws getting so strict new two strokes are all but extinct nowadays

Re: Yay? Or Nay?

The Hyosung 250 version (exact same bike bar the engine cc) is only £300 more and is tapping on the 33bhp restriction. My friend says his 125 cruises at 65mph and going down a steep hill you will get just over 80mph but that was kicking the **** out it rev counter was near 15000rpm lol but they are the nicest looking 125's.

Re: Yay? Or Nay?

yep the days of 2 strokes are pretty much numbered. i wouldnt even consider a 125 4stroke, they're flat and weak and you'll very quickly get bored with it. at least test ride one first. i'd get a cagiva mito 2, pick up a good low milage 2001 model and you'll lose practically nothing on it if you keep it for a year. you'll definately lose a chunk of money on a new gt125r. plus cagiva is italian

Re: Yay? Or Nay?

The Hyosung twin will be better than any other single (2 valve ) current 4t.

They're ok bikes. The comet always got good reviews, but i personally own a 125 Cagiva and would never touch a 4t 124.

Fine for learning on, but you'll soon get bored of the speed and power delivery.
