Re: Do you smoke?

only when i sit too close to the bonfire. (cue tumbleweed and silence)

it looks very scruffy, costs a fortune, stinks, and kills you, but it still feels so good. (jug goes for tab break)

Re: Do you smoke?

Roll on July 1st :slayer:

I'll be able to go places without smelling of cigarettes when I get home :D

Yes and as is typical of this Nanny State the smokers will have nowhere to go. Stupid law which impinges on freedom of choice for both smokers and business owners. Smoking and non-smoking pubs showdown I say so that everyone can go out for a pint.

Yes, what a nanny state, i mean it should be totally allowed that I urinate or spit on others, let alone smoking...

Re: Do you smoke?

i dont understand why there cant be public places where smoking is allowed, non-smokers go there by choice so they are not forced to smoke passively.

yes there should be non-smoking venues for those who prefer it, but there should also be smoking venues for those who smoke. then everyone can choose. forcing the decision on everyone is wrong imo.

whatever floats your boat :)

hospitals might be better if they dont have to use millions trying to save people who smoke and kill them self, so they should force you, they should make tobaco an illegal substance, easiest way.

yep i do smoke

not ovrly happy about the smoking ban personally, in many ways i share the same views as Oz. we have freedom of choice, yet e choose and then get ostracised because of it. why cant there be smoking an non smoking pubs etc. its all well and good saying go outside, but if you were a smoker how would you feel about everyone telling you to go outside for a cig when your out with your mates!!!

Re: Do you smoke?

making some thing illegal dont stop people does it, it just makes them criminals for doing what they always done

well they could make it illegal to sell it, you can use it, but you cant sell it, yes people will still be able to get it, but most will stop smoking cos they wont be able to get it or afford the high costs if they find someone who can get it.

erm i pay £5 per packet for that medical care, if anything smokers cross subsidise medical care for non-smokers.

if everyone stopped smoking where would the billions of lost revenue come from? thats right raised taxes, probably fuel and income tax. and reduced spending, such as schools and hospitals. how does that smell?

EDIT: just found out, tax revenue from tobacco in 2005 was £14.5billion.
if anyone is addicted to nicotine its the government.

as dave has pointed it wont stop people will it?

I don't mind fit girls that smoke, means if you have to kiss em at least you get a kind of neutral taste and not the old curry they was eating before :p

dont agree with you actually, i think it tastes horrible kissing a girl thats just been smoking, menthols or not (n)

also it makes clothes stink, thats a turn off in it's self

That's such a BS argument....please think about it for just a second.

We don't have freedom of choice?!

Up until December 2006 I would have voted 'Yes', but since that date I haven't touched one cigarette and am now smoke free (y)

Regarding the 'nanny state', people do realise that England is one of the last European countries to bring in the 'public places' smoking ban? So that means most of Europe along with other countries in the world are also nanny states...

Though I gave up last year, I do believe that smokers should be given an area to smoke in enclosed public spaces. However, this needs to be sufficiently shielded from the rest of the public so that smoke stays within that area so as not to affect non smokers.

From a selfish point of view I'm looking forward to the July 1st ban as it will remove further the temptation for me to want a cigarette. If no-one else is smoking around me and I can't smell it, then I won't want one...

Maybe I'll have just one in a bar on June 30th just for the hell of it. The following day that's it, it's banned!

I do feel for those that do want to continue smoking though. It is their choice, but by the same token it's a non smokers choice to NOT be affected by second hand smoke. Certainly one of the reasons I gave up after 14 years was because of the impending ban, so from a health point of view it's a good thing for me.

The reality is that it is going to get more and more difficult to find somewhere to smoke in future. You can be sure that the bans will soon encompass public parks, and I know that places like Disney World and Universal Studios ban smoking outside except in designated areas. I was still smoking when I went to those theme parks, and every time I wanted a ciggie I felt like I was being put in 'Lepers Corner'.

I know for me it's made it much easier giving up now than waiting until July 1st. It's going to be REALLY hard for a smoker from that date onwards :(
