Forum Tidy Up

In an effort to try and make everything look a lot neater, as well as reduce the main page size and stop people complaining that their "car is at the bottom" - have reshuffled the forums and grouped them all together.

The old "General" forum is now just the cars name, with the Tech and Styling now sub categories of the main one....

If there are loads of objections, I can change it back - but I think this might be a better solution what with the models starting to stack up....?

I've seen it on other forums... is there a way of making it a user selectable feature? old version and new version?

personally I prefer the old one, even though the list was big, it was easier to navigate.

I liked the older one better, it seemed easier somehow. I hate navigating back and forth through layers of stuff and find one layer much easier to be honest.

I like the new look.

The old look was fine in its own way but I think grouping all the cars together definately makes it easier to navigate.

I was confused at first because I was looking for the Punto general folder and couldnt understand why it was taking me all the way back to the Punto main section but after I actually opened my eyes and realised what had been done then hit my head against the wall for being so stupid (kinda like this :bang: ) I then realised that a) it works great the way it is now..and b) I have now got a massive headache and the start of a big bump on my rather empty head.

Anyway my point being I LIKE IT

But i agree from the main page it looks a mess with the sub categories could you either get rid of them or make it a drop down menu for those too lazy to click to the car page first? Then it would look alot tidier?

You might not like this but here's my idea to tidy it up. In my view you need to be able to see the last post in each forum from the main page.

What I'd do is simply get rid of the subcategories, I've always thought they were unnecessary as for example people with a punto are almost certainly going to look in all three sections anyway and it just saves time if they are all in one place. There are only a few posts per day maximum in each section they'd certainly not be overloaded if they were all in one.

Getting rid of the sub-forums would solve that and make it tidier all in one. If nobody likes that idea, then a quick fix to make it tidier might be to group the cars with subcategories at the top, punto stilo cinqs etc, I think this would be clearer and less messy than the alphabetical style we have now.

i deffinatly prefered it the way it was. now just looks like all thrown together. were as before looked like some had taken time to set it all out properly. not being able to see the last thread in each section is also annoying that was very usefull. the sub catagories make it look a mess now. look how clean the mpv and commercial sections look compared to the car one. one solution would be what was suggested above about not using sub catagories but that could lead to some posts being pushed of the page far to quickly and people wont see them. best suggestion i think is to get rid of teh sub section listings from font page so its just car name. and lates post topic. then when you click on car name you are taken to list of the 3 different catagories showing latest topic for each. either that or pt back to exactly how it was before and had worked for many a year and tell people that say page to long that the thing in the middle of the mouse is a scroll wheel and to open there eyes.

Hmm... made a tiny change - by putting in descriptions in the non split ones, they are now all roughly the same height - and have removed the "Sub Forum" text ...... i know you still can't see each sub's current content, but for the sake of the rest of the complaints - better looking now?
