Keeping Threads On Topic

Keeping Threads On Topic

It's got to the point now where something has to be said, too many topics are starting well, but just falling off topic and becoming 'gutter threads' - fair enough if a topic starts as a bit dodgy, by all means carry it on (within reason)

But trashing a thread that otherwise had a useful purpose won't be acceptable any more

Basically, the dodgy posts will just be removed... end of.

Like I said, this is not to censor everything, its just to keep topics on track. If it starts to sway, just open a new post up... us mod's are getting fed up of almost every topic turning to smut.

Please.... respect the forum...

I'll agree with you Sammi, I do enjoy getting involved in the smut+other general off topic banter. My point was that if at any point it gets to the point that it needs editing/deleting then a mod should do that. That's the whole point of a moderator.

Posts don't need to be moved/deleted. Just a note from the mod to get the thread back on topic or a locked topic is all it takes

I'm with Sie on this... I'm not going to say i've not hijacked a thread because i have but only because the conversations moved on. Its not right to hijack a thread thats not over and the problem isnt solved kinda thing. And i agree threads outside the leisure lounge and started because someone has a problem/needs opinions/help shouldnt be hijacked as its unfair and leads to the person having to ask again for help.

I think another problem with the smutty comments is that alot of people dont know when they've crossed the line and have annoyed someone. If a thread is hijacked and a mod reads it and thinks the initial issue hasnt been resolved then a post to say can we get back on topic would be nice :) or even the thread starter could ask for more help on the initial problem.

I think it would be a shame if in the leisure lounge the thread topic cant sway slightly.

I have copied the acceptable useage policy for the LL below. I believe that it allows a lot of leeway for fun within the threads. You really will have to work hard to get moderated in a nonsence thread.

Our main concern is the hijacking of serious threads and obscene and denigratory comments.

black, not directed at you, just used your quote as useful link ;)

Acceptable Useage Policy
Hi and welcome to the "Leisure Lounge" area in the General Section of the FIAT forum.
This is an 'anything goes' area where we can all have a bit of fun. Topics in this area can be pure fun & nonsense or be on more serious matters if you want.

This is a still, however, a moderated area and there are a few simple rules to follow.

Fun and nonsence topics will only be moderated for offensive posts or for blatant spamming, hi-jacking or spoilsports.

Other topics will be moderated following standard forum rules as below:

Please respect the human rights and dignity of both our members and people in general. Offensive posts will be removed. Repeat offenders will be warned and receive a temporary or permanent ban.

Offensive and obscene language should be avoided where possible, this forum is used by parents with small children.

Please stick to the original topic in serious posts.

Do not SPAM! Replies may be short and light-hearted if appropriate, however, multiple short and in-appropriate replies will not be tolerated. Spam will be removed and repeat offenders will be warned and receive a temporary or permanent ban.

This is a friendly forum and we all would like to see it remain that way. The above rules are really just common sense and are there to help everyone enjoy this forum.

Regards,
Dave, :)
Richie.

I think everyone (well everyone replying on this thread) agrees that the hijacking of serious threads is wrong. The people doing it mgiht think they're having a bit of fun, but its annoying to the person that started the thread that needs serious responces and after a couple of posts the thread goes completly off topic.

I think people are just worried now that even in the leisure lounge the topics have to stay exactly as the thread has started. (thats what i gathered from this thread which caused by remark about it being a shame if the topic couldnt sway at all. )

Alot of people are here to have a laugh and enjoy the banter in the LL, people are just worried this is going to be stopped. Which i now understand its not :)

Sorry if any confusion has been caused. Nonsense threads will only be moderated in extreme cases.

(Pre post edit... Just proof read what I have said below, you may need a strong stomach to continue;) )

The role of the moderator is to gently guide members along the road to a happy forum. We are not censors and do not wish to be. The use of the delete button is an option of last resort and can be seen as a sign of failure. In the perfect world members will moderate their own posts, we are here to help in that and pick up the odd stray.

Ok its safe to open your eyes now. :)

Re: TC not to blame!

Couple of points.

It's taken me 2 hours to read and reply to the last 24 hours of posts in the Cinq/Sei section alone. I'd have to stop time to read all the posts in the other sections too.

Mods here to keep things all in line? We can do if problem posts are reported, otherwise chances are we might not see them. Anyone who has reported a post to me or the other mods (either directly or via Report system) will know they always get a quick response - so in effect you're all accountable for keeping things right. After all, you are all responsible adults, right? :)

Re: TC not to blame!

politician's answer there Pete! :D

the reason i have never reported any posts is because I've never taken offence or been aggrevated by spamming/hijacking. not sure about anyone else

Basically Sie, I have NOW reported every post you have ever made - hopefully it will keep Pete off the streets :D [btw, I haven't really!]

Re: TC not to blame!

Think Petes right there if anyone has a problem with a post they should report it. Afterall we'll never know it's upset/annoyed someone if we dont hear about it :)

As Sie said... a post has never caused me offence or annoyance so i've not reported it but if it had i'd say something. I think thats what everyone needs to do though.

Easier said than done i know as always.
