Keeping Threads On Topic

Keeping Threads On Topic

It's got to the point now where something has to be said, too many topics are starting well, but just falling off topic and becoming 'gutter threads' - fair enough if a topic starts as a bit dodgy, by all means carry it on (within reason)

But trashing a thread that otherwise had a useful purpose won't be acceptable any more

Basically, the dodgy posts will just be removed... end of.

Like I said, this is not to censor everything, its just to keep topics on track. If it starts to sway, just open a new post up... us mod's are getting fed up of almost every topic turning to smut.

Please.... respect the forum...

What annoys me is my own threads becoming another subject all together. I'm sure this is shared by all members but the big question is.....................

What condones smut etc and who will be removing it because as Stu said earlier he's guilty and he's a mod so hopefully no abuse of power!

Liam

The problem just seems to be one of context, if someone starts a thread about replacement gearknobs it would be crude to turn it into one about phallic symbols. However if, oooh, what nick shall I pick on? Hmm, say, Nick wrote about gearsticks as a phallic symbol the context is set in that tone, and you know what to expect.

e.g. judge it right ;-)

Yes?

Thanks, lol, I am THE guilty one - anyone else want to stand accused as well?!?

If anyone has a problem with any of their threads being hijacked, then maybe a friendly pm to say so, or report to moderator as a last resort - if WE/ME don't know people don't like it, why should we stop doing it - as far as I was concerned, all part of the forum banter, no major harm as such.

My only mod powers are in the Ulysse section - no smut in there, as far as I can see.....:)

Be interesting to go back to very old topics and see what OTHERS have said in the past ;) - hmm, maybe not!

exactly stu - this is what i have been trying to say - i admit i do it, i said before but it seems funny how people who have made comments on this thread have also made other untopical comments and choose now to complain and if they had a problem before why not request the comment/post to be removed??!!??

Well whilst I make untopical comments Im not complaining, I just skip over what I dont want to read :D

Im not complaining either, i just dont like, say, a thread about gear knobs being changed into a thread about exhausts (purely examples).

I dont mind at all about a bit of banter, im sometimes in hysterics about what people say.

But then it often goes a bit far, and after the banter, the initial thread topic is lost...

yes i understand what your saying chris but it only really happens in the LL - not really anywhere else, and usually if the topic is dead anyway. my threads usually get trashed anyway, i dont mind as long i get the infomation i want. or if i havent i say can we get back on topic people............. :)

Yeah, I think the whole point is about keeping each thread in-line with the thread title!

I thnk smut is a side-issue, something that can or should be used where relevant [i.e. not EVERY thread, lol]. I just never realised it was UPSETTING so many people, that I do apologise to - I am not a mind-reader, and it always seemed to go down well.....[can I say that?:)]

There is an option now in the moderator controls to split a thread once it becomes off-topic, btw.

Stu

Basically it comes down to, if the post had a point when it started, if possible this is what should be kept to... if the topic goes off due to progression in the post, then thats ok.... but if it's just fires off for no aparent reason is where we need to look out.

Let me think of an example:

I post about the weather being good (ok)
Someone comments this is great cause it means women wear skimpy clothing (still on topic)
Someone says they'd like to see X in skimpy (starting to drift)
X retaliating about Y (and it all goes downhill...) :D
Ensue a smut fest....

Just for now peeps, so we can get everything back on track... then you can all donate £50 and join the members only forum (with free access to the members only photo gallery too ;))

£50 now paid ;)

And anyway, talking about the weather can be so dull you know?!!

What a lovely evening, btw :)

No, seriously, I understand and accept what you are saying - at least we have some formal guidelines to follow now.

Stu

EDIT - Nice pecs, Pete

I'd have to say that threads do wander off topic both in and out of the Leisure Lounge - I may have added to this myself on occasion:eek: - but agree wholly with Ben that the topic should be followed where possible.

The smut does go on, and on occasion crosses the line: now this has been brought up I'm sure people will realise and it'll be kept sane. Personally I think the majority of the posts are really funny - it's just the odd few that need a nudge back into line.

Being fairly new to this forum:rolleyes: i can say i don´t mind the occasional wondering off topic as long as it´s not on every post.I admit i haven´t personally seen any problems with the posts lately(yes i read them all, took about 10min to read this one:D ).I do think if someone is searching for answers they will look in the specific forum or search(since it works now!!;) ). One problem i did notice was lots of posts have titles like "help", can´t people be more specific, if your posting a question chances are it´s asking for help!! So at least relate to the problem in the title. Sorry about this long winded reply but i think i have a point somewhere in there:p

Threads have been getting worse lately. I have had to delete/edit some obscene material recently.

I think the acceptable use policy posts in LL and LTF are fair and do not stop people having fun. Read them and comment if you think otherwise.

The thing to remember is that this forum is also for the thousands of members who do not post regularly. It is not a chat room for the few of us who are regulars.

The role of a moderator is simply that, to keep the posts moderate. I like a laugh as much as anyone and certainly won't be deleting posts just for fun. All we want is a bit of thought before you post.

Dave :)

I have missed this for today so will just my two penn'orth in as I see it. LL is for posting banter and having fun so let's not be too harsh on it. I agree that car related posts in the various sections should be kept on track and sensible as far as possible. If someone's not happy with something I post could they please say something as like Stu I am not psychic (I have to tell my customers this every day - do I have to mention it here as well?) and although i try to stay light and not offend I realise sometimes I may. Certain things offend a me a bit too, I just ignore them and read around them or don't load the offending pictures. If you wish to make guidelines, may I suggest they are patrolled be some light, relaxed and polite moderation (I realise moderation is a voluntary position having done it myself on other forums before but it's important that moderators retain a presence and personality on the forum and if not, bring in moderators who are prepared to do this). If things go off topic, smutty or way out then these moderators can gently being things back into line without being heavy handed - it works in other places. Will come back to you if I think of anything more useful to say :)

I have to agree that some threads get carried away but all the regulars on here no how to take all the jokes and banter! I agree with ben to it doesnt look good if guests come on and read all the banter that they dont understand so maybe sammis idea of a locked forum for members might be good and that the moderators take an extra watch on the leisure lounge maybe even bring in more mods to just watch the lounge as there is bond to be someone on at any given point in the day!

Keep up the good work mods!

i think more moderators are needed if u want too keep everything in order cause by the sound off it its only polecat, fixit and ben that are speaking up and doing anything about it, but i dont know whats goin on behind the scenes

maybe an update off moderators is needed aswell cause i dont reconigse a few names on the mods list
