Hi all, yes its that time of year when one has to renew his insurance sob sob. Well I'm miffed and heres why.
Renewal £333 1.6 3DR active sport parked on the road and protected NCD.
and yes over 40 years old lol. So like anyone else I shopped around and got it down to £245 not bad I thought so phoned my insurance to cancel the renewal unless they could price match. They phoned me back to tell me I got the cheap quote because I hadnt told them about an accident I had last year. ( 3rd party hit me from behind and admitted liability ) and I didnt know it needed to go on the form. Anyway they added it to the quote as a non fault claim and blow me it added £30 to the quote. My question is why do the insurance companies penalise the victims as well as the people who caused the accidents. It can be only to get more money out of us motorist. I complained but got nowhere and I must be one of many who suffer each year in this way.
Anyway just renewed with TSB £299 fully comp protected NCD for me and wife with the non fault claim declared and a £0 yes £0 excess so im fairly happy.
Your comments ould be appreciated.

Why do you think people are so willing to sort it out without going through the insurance?

I nearly had another £30 added when I was clipped by an old Italian guy in a camper van. Mentioned to the insurers that I might be making a claim on someone elses insurance and they tried to add another claim to my record! I wasn't happy so I asked for another copy of my NCB allowance faxed through - this one had only the one claim on so guess which I sent to my next insurers...

Yes, I've done quotes via confused.com with and without a no-fault claim and most insurers bung your premium up. I think they put it down as you are the type of person likely to get hit... Still don't see how that makes it more expencive for them - unless you're cynical and believe all the insurers are in on a big agreement to quash insurance claims which would affect each other, thus making bigger profits for them.

e.g. elephant and morethan agree to keep claims to a minimum.
elephant customer crashes into morethan customer. morethan offer the minimum possible compensation to their customer even though its elephant who is paying..
morethan customer crashes into elephant customer. elephant keep the claim to a minimum.
This suits both companies and who's the one losing out? Oh yes its the customers who have bigger premiums and lower payouts.

They do, some companies even try to make claims go 50/50

This means that no one involved in the accident gets money to repair their car regardless of fault and BOTH parties involved insurance premiums go up.

its liberties at the end of the day.
