Hiya all,

Just posting this out of curiosity.

I'm 24, 25 at the end of may, but insurance gets renewed end of march. When i hit 25 will i get any discounts or does getting reinsured in march mean i will loose the benefit and have to wait till later on?

I passed my test in february this year as i know that makes a bearing on it.

Like i said, just curious as to if anyone knows,

Ta,

Carl.

I think you do get some sort of discount however it wont be as high as it would if you had been driving for longer

Large scale insurance pricing works by calculating a preset rating for every question you are asked when undergoing a quote.

The fact that you've not been driving for long means you will have a high rating in the "prior driving experience" field. When you are over 25 you will have a lower rating than say a 24 year old with the exact same details. So your premim will rise above base level due to low experience, then fall as you are over 25 years old. So if base premium is say £1000, you may get a 30% discount for being 25, and a 40% increase for having less than 2 years driving experience. If you live in a high risk area, you may get another 20% rise, if you park in a garage you may get a 10% discount, etc.. etc.. then when all the factors are added up you get the price that you pay.

Different insurers will use different boundries for calculating rates concerning age, some will price 17-18yr olds highest, then 18-21, then 21-24, then 25+. Others will have subsections within these boundries, and some (maybe the firms who advertise for older drivers etc...) will have more boundries say for 45 yr olds and up.

hope this helps.
