My brother lives in the USA, despite having a full UK license and being a British citizen I can't insure him on my car as an additional driver. My insurance company says it's against their policy. Does anyone know of a way round this?

If your current insurer won't cover your brother - presumably he's just visiting for a while - then your stuck, as far as your present insurer goes.

If you do a google search for 'daily car insurance' you may find something.

Seems strange. Who is your current insurer out of interest?

I thought an update might be of interest. I've rung up many more companies. The best I got was Adrian Flux. After being on hold for 10 mins and being passed round the houses I was told if it was a wandering insurance to cover driving his own car anywhere in Europe then they could help. Otherwise no one will let me insure my brother on my car.

I asked the person on the phone what if I want to insure a car I keep overseas. He didn't know what the situation would be then so I came at it from a different angle and said I want to insure myself on my brothers car in the USA. His answer was "get a hire car". Very helpful...

Could you not just insure your car "any driver".

That said, hiring a car for a few days a year might work out cheaper, so the advice given above may be more helpful than you think.
