I've bought a new Fiat 500 Lounge in Chillout Purple, I'm picking it up this Friday (fingers crossed!!). I was just wondering if anyone has bothered purchasing the Smart Insurance. The sales guy explained it to me when I purchased the car and it sounded like a good idea. But its £449, and it's a lot of money, on top of my normal insurance as I'm a young driver. Is it worth getting it? And if I do decide not to get it when I pick up the car, can I get it at a later date?

is it gap insurance? like any insurance shop around for best deal, check also to see if its already included on your policy.

Their site says it covers:

• Private vehicles up to 36 months
• Up to £3,000 cover, in aggregate, during the period of insurance against:
– dents not exceeding 15cm in diameter
– scratches not exceeding 15cm in length
– chips not exceeding 1.5cm in diameter
– scuffed bumpers

No this is different to GAP insurance. The Smart insurance covers for cosmetic damage.

I've had a look around on the internet and I've seen cheaper options. ProtectYourBubble do Cosmetic (Smart) Insurance for £149 for the year or £179 if you want to include alloy wheel cover. Although Fiat's one does cover 36months, it's just a lot of money to pay outright right now. So I think for now I'll just go with ProtectYourBubble for now.
