Well im on limited mileage with a company which has installed a black box in my punto. Got about 5 months left and only 500 miles to drive, if i want more they are wanting over 90 quid for 250 miles, which i cant really keep paying as my insurance was 2800 on finance which means im paying 230 a month as it is :bang: - expensive through my own mistakes.

Can anyone tell me if theres a way of removing the box without destroying the signal it gives out, as i would gladly pay someone who is qualified to do the deed..

then you wont be insured

how come you haven't gained any bonus miles?

I drive alot after 11pm, and i frequently drive 5-10 mph over the speed limit. I always drive 30 in 30 zones, but on larger roads like dual carraigeways, country lanes, and motorways i drive a little over. What so your telling me YOU never drive over 70 on the motorway. You never go over 40 on 40 zones? And the reward for being a snail in the left hand lane is a measley 100 miles per month.

Besides i asked a question and you never answered it. I would say anywhere between 70 to 80 percent of drivers break the speed limit, by that i dont mean doing 60 in a 30, or 100 in a 40 zone, i mean 5 to 10 above the limit.

whats the speed i drive got to do with any thing? im not in a high risk group driving with a box, asking on a public forum for help to break the law.

Thanks for NOTHING mr neverbrokethelaw, yea right.

M Evans born 21st april I'm sure insure the box or what ever company your with would love to see this thread!

Can't afford to drive sensibly? Then don't drive at all. My sister had one of those things and managed a year of not speeding. Equally I manage 50+ miles a day without the need to speed.

It'd be cheaper on your insurance and fuel bills! ;)

Would love to see a subsequent claim "so your car was damaged in a rear end shunt in lane no2 of the M1 when it was parked up at home and has been for 3 weeks"....

think your insurance is expensive now you want to see what will happen should they cancel your policy when you have to declare it for the rest of your life to EVERY insurance policy be it car / home/ holiday/pet/ mortgage/

Nice attitude...

Not once did Dave say he doesn't drive over 70mph.. (i'm not suggesting he does/doesn't). All he asked was why you hadn't gained any bonus miles.

Now you personally know you have a tracker box in your car with both your insurance company and the police have access to the records of.

Im not saying they'll care about you doing 75mph on a motorway, its still within the safety of +/-10% (in Yorkshire anyway). But you can be assured they'll take note of it. and possibly not give you Bonus Miles.

If you remove the box, then the signal will stop. Even if you tamper with it in some cases.

Now if the signal stops your insurance will become invalid, meaning you are driving illegally.

If you are caught by an ANPR equipped Police Vehicle, or even the newer ANPR Cameras going in and out of towns, you are likely to get a hefty fine, possibley a ban. and very likely to get your car impounded/crushed and you pay for that privilege.

Think about it.

Can't you cancel your policy and then just re-insure with someone else?

Yea but the idea of going with them in the first is it was the cheapest quote i could get (first car) so i could get my first years ncb. Im about half way there so cancelling would be pointless, should av kept a eye on miles but been doin 50 a day for work. I need to stick it out and it will drop to less than half with 1 ncb. It looks like im guna av 2 reinsure the bike for the a-b trips.

I even phoned them and told them everything on here lol, enquiring and doing are two different things. I asked them if, if a bought a few thousand in bulk, would i be able to get a little discount, however if you buy 250,500,1000,2000, the fee per mile works out at 37p per mile i think it was. Add that to the fuel bill thanks to parliament im guna be paying 52p per mile in insurance/fuel costs lol.

I have tried to drive to the speed limits, i really have, but i have bad habits from having a motorbike which is a little quicker than a 1.2 punto.

Point taken..

Did you not take a good guess / work out your monthly / yearly mileage before you took out your policy in the first place?

50 miles a day 250 a week just for work (assuming 5 day working week) ..........

I had a change of work because the money was good, when i took out insurance i was going with someone who lives less than 100 yards round the corner. I am again relying on someone else for work... lol

Another point. If like myself. alot of your work takes place at night. Such as bar work or night shifts in warehouses. then pretty much these "Trackers" are the most pointless and costly things in the world...

...as youve found out

edit. since i posted this, you said you changed your job. so i take that back. but the point still stands in reference

Even though you had a box fitted which you knew would penalise you for driving over the speed limit you still do it

Reminds of the simpsons when bart gets electrocuted trying to get the cup cake......

Perhaps it's time to start driving within the speed limits for those last 500 miles and perhaps the price for extra miles will come down?

Did you not factor this in with new job? Better money but more in insurance, can soon wipe out the extra money benefit :(

I do 50 miles a day for work like you, that's 12k a year mileage just work work, with about 8k personal mileage I'm doing 20k in my car, an that's excluding the mileage I do in my weekend car

It soon mounts up unfortunately.

InsureTheBox by any chance? Same here. You cannot remove the box.

100 miles a month / 1200 miles a year / £432. - Not very measley is it?

Why speed? What's the point? Save 5 minutes on your journey/risk not getting there/loosing your license.

And no, I do not speed, never have done.

Have insurance premiums really gone up so much in the 5 years I've been driving?

When I got my first car at 17 in 2007 I had to pay out what I thought was a crazy amount of £2,400 fully comp insurance for a 2002 1.2 Clio. Since then it has dropped down to what it is now which was about £730 just before Christmas, this is on my Bravo 165T Sport which is the 5th car I've had so far.

After the Clio I got a 2004 Focus (the Clio was s**t) then a 2006 Fiesta Zetec S and then an Alfa MiTo 1.6JTDm when I was 19 at which time the insurance was about £1,300 a year.

How much is an average 17 now being quoted on a low group car in the 60-80 hp bracket like the Punto's etc?

I thought £2,400 was way too much but just paid it because there was no other option. Luckily I had a full time job so could just about cover the cost and saw the long term benefit of NCB and then better cars. But none of these black boxes dictating how I drive or how many miles I can do.
